GM nostriches, loving a bit of Tuesday morning @npub159xc...g2g6 and @jimmysong , helping me make a few connections, but please correct me if I’m wrong, but…….
If the op_return limit has been increased to 100k, this adds additional data to a block, which admittedly can be pruned later, BUT this extra data will likely slow block propagation, particularly if a number of nodes aren’t running v30. As Jimmy says, even a 6 second delay is a 1% reduction in mining uptime, surely transmitting v30 blocks will reduce miner efficiency. We’re always told miners are economic actors and will be making decisions based on this, even if fees for op_returns are significant. 1% of the block reward is equivalent to 3.1million sats!
The passing comment that miners should use knots wasn’t given a lot of time, but was telling, meaning only blocks without increased op_return limits would get added, irrespective of what economic nodes are running.
