I’ve come full circle on something
I care deeply about human rights: the basic rights, dignities, and freedoms that belong to every person by virtue of being a human being.
One of the greatest quotes regarding human rights is by Thomas Jefferson:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”
So, when a progressive politician like Bernie Sanders says healthcare is a human right — that is fucking bullshit. Human rights are inalienable rights. Not your party platform for centralized government control over something as important as healthcare.
Now—we ought to have robust conversation about the best ways to access healthcare! But I’m so beyond tired of hearing “healthcare is a human right”
Growing up Christian, whether you know it or not you’re taught and heavily influenced by civil disobedience through the life and teachings of Jesus
And then in college I was taught civil disobedience from studying the 60s and 70s in America
And now in Bitcoin, one of the greatest acts of civil disobedience (in many nations and contexts)
Positive change in our world requires civil disobedience
I watched this last night. It was ok, love Jesse Armstrong. But all I kept thinking was nostr fixes this (verifiable, decentralized communication on the internet)
