Feels very stretched, and it would not be out of place in a British broadsheet newspaper - which isn't intended as an insult. Ot maybe it does work well and I was like an LLM or someone suffering psychosis and detected too many possibilities. Avoiding that is the whole point of a definition in a cryptic crossword clue and I'm griping. Wordle 1,692 4/6* (nearly 3 blank rows, 1/2 on 3) ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ β¬›β¬›β¬›β¬›πŸŸ© 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Minute Cryptic - 5 February, 2026 (I can't be bothered to write anything. I'm not fed up, just a little bored, and a bit of a rant about the cloying earnestness of some love songs, particularly by men in the last decade, would make me sound like St Skeletor. I think it has become unfashionable for women to sing about love without irony and men to sing about love without a kind of sacred flaw or hero quest. Which, regardless of creed or gender, entirely ignores that love songs are still shit. Except I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers which is annoying as it is catchy. Love is great and there should be more of it. With several caveats about music.) If those adverts remind a person of gambling, for them gambling must be a hell of a rush, and if it's a hell of a rush then they probably shouldn't gamble for obvious reasons. I don't think gambling should be banned or subject to excessive regulation, outside of evidence based policies, because I don't think gambling would go away, it'd be even less regulated if it was banned. It doesn't change the fact the adverts are like adverts for booze or when smoking adverts were allowed in the UK. Would stopping the adverts make a difference? It really comes down to evidence and I think there are a great deal of potential post hoc and cum hoc fallacies, so other than the adverts annoying me, which to be fair seems to be the general effect of adverts aimed at large numbers of people, I don't have an opinion. If heroin was legal and regulated would adverts talking about how great it is be OK if at the end of them they had a pause symbol and said "take time to think?". Although comparing heroin and gambling is unfair because heroin will cause a physical dependancy in everyone while gambling will only be addictive for some. So if heroin was made legal I certainly wouldn't recommend advertising it with a talking fox, delighted peons, or whatever other shit they put in gambling adverts. I wish I could turn those adverts off. A general sense of annoyance before, and during. breakfast can't be good for digestion.) "Behind schedule, chasing trains, I went express internationally?" Wordle 1,688 4/6* (1/4, although realistically 1/2 on 3) ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ πŸŸ©β¬›β¬›πŸŸ©β¬› πŸŸ©β¬›πŸŸ©πŸŸ©πŸŸ© 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 Minute Cryptic - 1 February, 2026 (I got it quickly but I would need an eraser, just in case, in a crossword. I use a Koh-I-Noor Hardmuth 5900, mechanical, clutch pencil which feels far more expensive than it is. They're a Czech company and I think their prices have been somewhat brexited because, checking, it's now roughly doubled in price since I bought it. It takes their 2mm pencil leads which last for far longer than a regular pencils, which I think is because the particular HB (hard black) is more like an H but with slightly more graphite. So they're not as dark on the page, especially when a little blunt. It has survived being thoroughly disassembled by a 5 year old nephew and a great deal of scribbling by me. Erasers matter somewhat and I currently use a Faber-Castell PVC free eraser. Faber-Castell seem marginally less brexited than Koh-I-Noor and my theory is that it's because Faber-Castell are imported by bigger businesses than Koh-I-Noor. Or importing from Czechia has become more expensive. But that eraser hits the sweet spot, for paper, and doesn't take loads of the paper off through being overly abrasive. So combined with light but very durable pencil lines the clutch pencil and eraser make for excellent crossword tools. I suspect Brexit hurt small businesses far more than big ones. I could be wrong and I am 5/10 distracted by thinking about breakfast and have double checked nothing. Although that's tangentially related because that Greek yoghurt was also unreasonably expensive.) "Opening two letters from clown, touchingly sad?" Part luck maybe. I'm essentially thinking about breakfast. I'm using a tiny pot of organic actual Greek yoghurt which cost far more than the yoghurt I normally buy. Itcs good Greek yoghurt, and at that price I'd bloody well hope so, but generally I prefer strained Greek or strained Turkish style yoghurt because it has more flavour other than creamy yoghurt. I should probably go on about more interesting or topical things but I am, quite genuinely, preoccupied thinking about breakfast and still a bit annoyed that much Greek yoghurt cost that much. I do have Polish kefir in the fridge which was reasonably priced so I don't think it's just a Brexit thing. They're maybe posh Greek cows that wear top hats and eat their organic grass by cutting it into little bits in dainty portions.) "Fig 'n' ram!" A 9/10 birthday. No drama, chilled out, friends & family, sensible gifts. I'm still digesting the meal both in terms of food a mentally. Mentally because I'm inclined to do that when overstimulated and physically because the standard portion sizes from a, pretty decent, local Indian takeaway cater to people who have larger portions than I do. I like Kalles Kaviar with eggs and crispbread but I wouldn't eat it every day although the iodine is probably good for crosswords and grim rumination. I do like it when websites have paywalls because I can make up the contents of the story in my head which is usually better than the actual story itself. Today I have defrosted some morello cherries overnight sitting on a bed of 20gm raisins dusted with a lot of cocoa. I'm going to eat it with All Bran, chia seeds, and 100gm of greek style yoghurt. It's full fat yogurt but it's not because I think it's inherently good for a person. But 100gm of 10% or 20% full fat yogurts will fill me up more than 5% or 0% yoghurt and thus I end up eating less overall. I have nearly 600 days of personal dietary records that suggests that applies to me which I can't generalise to other people. The evidence about excess cholesterol is clear, but in this case it's not about excess, although the sugar in the All Bran bothers me a bit but less so than if they replaced it with a non nutritional sweetener because they're like vaping if tobacco was fine in moderation for me (tobacco is not and I don't smoke or vape). ) "Eva and Ruth - runners up to Miss World" (5) 🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣🟣 πŸ† 0 hints – 1 under the community par (49,753 solvers so far).
