YakiHonne Creator & Researcher in Decentralized Social Networks
During SMC 2025, we explored the themes of decentralized social networks and publishing. I was impressed by Bluesky’s growing presence in the U.S. academic space, but Nostr and @YakiHonne are also set to become official communication platforms for SMC 2026.

Thinking about the scalability of decentralized social networks from three perspectives:
1. Identity — balancing user-friendliness and censorship resistance
2. Data storage — balancing unstoppable availability with fast loading speed
3. Better search and discovery
Optimistically, the first two — or about two and a half — of these challenges have already been addressed, forming the foundation for solving the third one. The third challenge is the key to enabling true network scalability.
The next focus will be on this third challenge.

Tested @YakiHonne ’s new version and was amazed by the offline mode. New version coming soon!
Rereading this book again after Charlie Kirk’s death, the soft beliefs of the younger generation feel impossible to ignore.

From an efficiency perspective, combining AI with social media might not really work, since social media isn’t designed as a workflow tool. Instead, leaning into fun and playfulness could be a direction.
Had a great chat with Jerry about the freedom brought by Bitcoin and Nostr, and how Yakihonne keeps overcoming the challenges along the way. View quoted note →
Back in 2017, I was at a secondary market fund. My boss firmly rejected the cryptocurrency sub-sector, saying it was too chaotic to touch. Fast forward to last year, they jumped into the game of RWA and DAT, saying: Now the real game begins. View quoted note →

The Evolution of Social Protocols

The academic monopoly chain:
Researchers create → Paywalled publishing → Users pay to download (including the authors themselves) → Publishers keep profiting 💸
Now even decentralized platforms like Sci-Hub are starting to introduce token-based paywalls.
🤔 Shall we build a decentralized academic publishing network on Nostr?

Why RSS fail?

Governments and companies who want to buy bitcoin will have to buy it from individuals willing to sell it 👀

For yakihonne meaning: YakiHonne. “Yaki” is coming from "dorayaki" which is a form of japenese pancackes which means “your cake,” and “Honne” means “your truth box.” On yakihonne, own your voice and you assets.

A meme is a trend you chase and drop. Bitcoin is a classic you keep forever.
