The FI in FIRE is the important part I don't really think a man would be that happy to never work again Probably a better goal is Financial independence work optionally

That's my goal. Retirement in my mind is not needing to work for an income to sustain my life. But that doesn't mean I won't do anything. It doesn't even mean I won't earn an income. It'll just be completely my choice.
Exactly. I want to work, volunteer - live - for what is good and worthwhile, not because I need to. Hopefully on a farm with tasty critters
As someone who has been laid off since September of 25. First couple months were great and enjoyable as I had been doing 7 days a week for months before the store closed. So I needed the time off. But by the new year I was itching to be productive again.. Hopefully starting an electrician apprenticeship in July 🤞 I've felt like a bum the last few months.
I've never understood the word retirement. I spend more time on unpaid work than paid anyway, and always have. A privilege for sure, but also the reason I'll never be able to afford to actually retire.

in fact, we need to keep ourselves busy, otherwise we go crazy...
Imagine a book editor/publisher. What does their "retirement" look like? Never reading (or writing) a book ever again? Or a retired first responder; are they just done with rendering any kind of aid in any context? Retirement is a clunky concept that doesn't map well to the reality of vocational fulfillment.
FIWFF (Financial Independence Work For Fun) just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
Financial independence, then have the time to do whatever nourishes your soul best

My FIRE plan is to have a small business to keep me motivated to get out of bed

Financial Independence, so that you can do what you really want to do without having to worry about any money-related nonsense.
