For new creators whoβve just joined Nostr, thereβs one thing to keep in mind:
on Meta, X, and TikTok, creators get paid by a platform.
On Nostr, creators get paid by people.
No algorithms to please, no revenue-sharing program controlled by a company, no middlemen taking a cut of the value you create.
If your content is useful, insightful, or inspiring, those who appreciate it can support you directly with a zap.
More than a creator economy, Nostr restores something the internet lost: a direct relationship between creators and their audience. β‘π§‘

It dawned on me that a form of getting Bitcoin privately is just by selling to bitcoiners stuff they want, useful stuff.
Why don't we do that?
You know, you can just sell stuff to other bitcoiners...
Well said!
A direct relationship is most valuable.
Your website is the foundation.
Social media is a traffic source.
Never build your house on someone else's land.

I sell original oil paintings.
Which is awesome of course π.
I just wanted to express a cliche π
Good point. And I think Nostr gives people the equivalent ability to not build their social house on someone else's land, if done correctly.
Agreed.
Nostr can be a powerful communication channel.
Your website is still the hub.
This makes me wonder why Nostr can't be both at some point. I think it's a possibility if you expand beyond social and start applying the protocol to other things (like web serving).
So true! Funny reading thisβ¦as today Iβm dedicating my time to upgrade my website and making some really nice changes π₯°
Eventually, maybe.
All Nostr apps and services with any real traction still have their own websites.
That's because we can't replace web servers with Nostr yet. I think Nostr could be way bigger than how we use it now. Like a low level protocol for serving entire websites. Maybe a relay would be the web server, for example. We definitely aren't there yet but I can't imagine social media is the only use case for this. I imagine a future where npubs can be resolved without a specific social media style client. Maybe even in a web browser.
Currently, unless you host a web server on your own metal and have an ISP plan that allows it, you don't own the land your website is on. Even DNS makes this impossible since "the land" is really your domain name in terms of the modern web and how we use it. You're perpetually renting the land, and it can be taken at any moment.
That's the context for my thoughts on Nostr as a broader protocol. Maybe I'm crazy π
Ha. On the surface that looks pretty much like what I'm envisioning.
This sounds really good but a big issue Iβve encountered is that finding these nostr creators is not so intuitive
Love this, ICL.
Glad I could joined.
Thanks @π isolabellart for sharing this!
Build value. Share value. Get rewarded by the people who appreciate it. That's the beauty of Nostr. No gatekeepers, no algorithms deciding who deserves to be seen. π§‘

do you think that in addition to one being able to program their own clients, one could even create their own search algorithms?
many clients already give you the option to run them yourself, you can even add your own things.
