I second this except when the kid is freaking out for no reason because the crib is lava or something and nobody is getting any sleep. Then throw the kid in bed with you and get some sleep and try the crib again after a few days.

Right…
But the question wasn’t for parenting style advice, it was actually about identifying parenting equipment and minimizing expenses.
What the hell kind of crib is a good crib? I just googled cribs and I’m inundated with more advertising than a freaking tech conference.
A basic 100000-150000⚡️crib with height adjustment. Might be able to get one used. Either way you need to buy the mattress separate. Don't be lured into the convertible nonsense or built in drawers.
Yeah, we got a convertible crib. The idea of it turning in to a headboard and footboard was a nice thought except for that whole kid gnawing on the crib rails... We didn't pay a ton for the crib and we did use it to transition to a big bed when he outgrew the crib mattress. If you buy and can keep it nice, there is a market for secondhand baby gear.
A good crib is one that has good reviews and isn't hella complicated, you don't need a million attachments. Ours had a couple of different places for mattress height. I used an old dresser with a changing pad for his changing table and clothes. Get things that you can use as the baby gets older, not themed things that won't go with anything else.
Also are congrats in order?
Our was wood lol.
You could literally use a drawer for a crib. Don't get swept up in the ads and propaganda and spend big sats on a crib. Babies are potatoes the first few months lol
