A gentle reminder that Julian Assange is a free man due to years of hard work by activists who care about freedom of speech.
The imprisonment of Assange for his work on WikiLeaks was one of the most unjust attacks on journalism of our time. I celebrate his freedom every day.

"Now Julian is free, we have all come to Rome to express our family’s gratitude for the Pope’s support during Julian’s persecution. Our children and I had the honor of meeting Pope Francis in June 2023 to discuss how to free Julian from Belmarsh prison. Francis wrote to Julian in prison and even proposed to grant him asylum at the Vatican."

It's good to know Assange is free, but I'm still angry he was forced to plead guilty.
His charges should have been a top priority day 1 pardon for Obama, Trump 1, Biden, Trump 2, and most importantly the American voters, who have all failed Assange and other journalists worldwide

Obama couldn't have pardoned him, because he was only indicted under Trump 1. Many Trump voters conveniently forget that.
"If two parties have some sort of dealings, then each has a memory of their interaction. Each party can speak about their own memory of this; how could anyone prevent it? One could pass laws against it, but the freedom of speech, even more than privacy, is fundamental to an open society; we seek not to restrict any speech at all. If many parties speak together in the same forum, each can speak to all the others and aggregate together knowledge about individuals and other parties. The power of electronic communications has enabled such group speech, and it will not go away merely because we might want it to. "

I forgot that too. And Trump 1 also tried to have Assange assassinated
However, I think Obama could have just given a blanket pardon to everyone involved in WikiLeaks at the time
The Obama administration was definitely after Assange too. They prosecuted others connected to WikiLeaks and 13 years ago Assange said Obama had "done more to criminalise free speech than any other US President"
Julian Assange is the king of journalism. He is the best journalist of the 21st century. I am also very happy that he has been released. He is one of the best and bravest people of our times. Today seeing him in Rome in the middle of the people made me excited. Free free JA 🧡🏴☠️

would be nice to have him around
Not to detract from Assange and his support network, however consider Martin Armstrong who built the first fully artificial intelligence that accurately forecasts economics and geopolitics.
The US government wanted his source code but he wouldn't sell it. So they launched a law suit on behalf on Japanese clients for fraud (which these clients testified in Martin's defense) and demanded his source code as evidence.
When he wouldn't hand it over, they threw him in prison for contempt of court. For10 years.
When his supporters pressed for his release, they tried to murder him while in prison. He survived, and his supporters finally secured his release because of public awareness.
Never underestimate the power of advocacy.
Unfortunately he ended up taking a guilty plea instead of fighting for his innocence so the State still won. Regardless, I'm also glad he is free anyways.
