I think it’s ok to share this - got a dm about badges and how they could be repurposed to award certificates. I thought this was a neat idea. Imagine getting your rectification tied to your npub, proving you completed whatever it is you took. It whole be incredibly easy to verify as long as the organization npub is easily verifiable. Throwing it out there in hopes of it growing some legs.

Love it. The next step in the self custody of identity.

I would abstract away from the term “badge” and group it under a more general term and allow all of these use cases under that umbrella. You’d have a client which does essentially the same thing slightly different under different terminology.
Yup, this is a killer idea! This is really the #nostr counterpart to verifiable credentials and way more simple. I’d call it a ‘nostr credential’ which would encompass badges, certificate, anything that can be signed for that matter.

Not my idea btw, although credentialing has been floated around for as long as badges were around, I just never cared much to give it any thought.
He can't see what I write, so he always has to wait for someone else to pass it on. We already do this, with @Purple Konnektiv. If you attend the meetup and leave a good impression on us ladies, you get a badge. And @GitCitadel might start doing SW quality audits, with badges, since we have so many QAers on board. Maybe with different levels, like CMMi audits. Gold, Silver, Bronze, etc. (But don't tell Karnage. It's a secret.)
The super idea is that anyone with a npub can be a credential issuing authority. It’s one thing not to know who is the relevant credential issuing authority, it’s an entirely another thing to have to rely on a ‘certificate authority’ cartel to issue a certificate on your behalf and according to their rules. TBH, along with zaps, I find this to be one of the most exciting aspects of #nostr.
