Iโ€™ve been saying to folks โ€œWe can tip a busker on the street, but we canโ€™t even tip the artists on Spotify, etc.โ€
Congrats, thatโ€™s awesome news. Paving the way. I asked Jack briefly at Nostrasia if Tidal had plans to integrate lightningโ€ฆ โ€œThatโ€™s the plan.โ€ Love to see it.
Terminology does matter though. Tipping is a different model entirely and could increase revenue substantially. Spotify pays a streaming royalty and an incredibly low rate at that. Not to mention payout is old tech with archaic middlemen. Lightning payouts in real time for streams should be standard at the very least.
I respect the patience to read the room and time roll outs accordingly, as with the recent Square/Block POS announcements. That feels right.
I donโ€™t wish to be naively optimistic either. But I do think we are just starting to witness the possibilities of BTC as a means of exchange/settlement layer. It took a lot of time and work to get here and I believe this tech is going to continue disrupting the status quo moving forward.
It's possibly for sure. But on something like entertainment, this already exists. It exists on apple products, YouTube, meta, etc... you can easily buy a super chat, send support, a tip, etc... the only difference is perhaps it is real money rather than dollars. But at this time 99% of the world wants fiat not Bitcoin. I hope you are right!
