How long have you been on Nostr? I’m only a few days in and still figuring out how to use Primal, let alone what the platform is capable of. I’m particularly curious about the social dynamics here. Do you know if people share much of their personal lives and get to know each other over time, or is it predominantly a place for discussing technology, Bitcoin, and current events? I’m relatively new to social media in general, and Nostr is currently the only platform I’m using. I suppose I’m trying to understand whether people come here primarily for information and discussion or whether there’s also a sense of community, with people following each other’s lives and forming genuine connections over time. I’d be curious to hear your observations if you’ve been around for a while.

Hmmmm... About three years now. It has changed my line for the better. I've met some of the very best people who have challenged me to reexamine things, especially myself. Some people do share much about their lives. Others are here for much more nefarious purposes. The nostr protocol is very much what you make of it. "Seek and ye shall find" is manifested more easily here than nearly anywhere else. Point of clarification: nostr is a protocol. Primal is a client, and if you'll allow me to be pedantic and opinionated, it is the worst but one of the most popular clients. You can take you're keypair to other clients, and I would suggest that you do so, in order to see the true power of massive interoperability that the nostr protocol affords. Just be cautious of the nsec. That's literally the most important key to nostr. I can elaborate more if you wish. Nostr has a fairly cohesive community vibe, but it is also very diverse. There is a culture, especially the "good morning" cult. Lol! (It is polite and encouraged to say good morning.) As I like to say: "Nostr is weird. Find your weird." Plenty of tech stuff, plenty of people chit-chatting about their niche things, plenty of people with more typical social media addled activities (look at me, I'm so pretty, etc.). Ask me anything and I'll eventually get around to answering it. I don't always check the social side of things, as I do live life outside of most typical digital norms and sometimes I don't bother checking in for months. The good thing is that it is as much as I want, and it isn't algo-forced down your throat. I like it here, especially after banning a bunch of people I find consistently detestable and using non-free relays (I can explain that more later) which cuts down on the robot spam and gross porn. 🤣
Many of us have come to this through word of mouth, it makes sense that it's a bit of a boy's club, we're all mostly part of the same community. We've each seen a lot of each other irl. That said, we have people who we don't know too, and people who have other interests or missions like: Musicians like @npub1kepj...nlsn Activists like @Lyudmyla Kozlovska Comedians like @Noshole And for me, one of my interests is in freedom tech and all my favorite devs are here posting about their work and launching their apps.

Nostr is not a platform, there is no 'here'; there are places however. Kind of like asking what the social dynamic on the internet is, whilst there are all there different websites with completely different purposes, crowds etc. Carefull Alice, you might find out how deep this rabbithole goes. I already notified white rabbit Dawn, she can pull you deeper underground. You can also always ask me stuff and i will bombard you with more than you asked for and regardless of how much can you can chew. Here is something different for you to follow: @♡°˖✧ ˚ claire ˚ ✧˖°♡ Good luck
careful alice, don't call this place a place or you'll have some nerd (affectionate) all up ur asshole telling u there is no here etc etc
I've been on nostr for a year and a half and it's whatever you want it to be. I share random life updates, personal opinions, argue with people about politics etc. the same kind of stuff I was using Facebook for before being deplatformed from there.
