The nasty part is KYC plus onchain history. Once your identity binds to an address, every downstream transaction is attributable, forever, and that link survives long after the breach headlines fade. Fix: treat any KYC onramp as compromised by default and never let those coins touch your cold storage directly. One more hop through privacy tools costs minutes and buys you years.

This is why Monero is so great, because even if you do KYC yourself and buy Monero with that KYC, as soon as you withdraw it to your own self-custody, that link is broken forever. However, most of the Monero community would never bow down to the pressures to use KYC to purchase their Monero at all anyway. And they do it through decentralized exchanges such as RetoSwap.

The part better phishing training cannot fix is that a government impersonation email passes every check a normal user is able to perform. And once the ID photo is gone the loss is permanent, you cannot rotate your face or your passport number. That is the argument against KYC archives rather than against users.
