Most people just feel being right means being in a group of people that think the same. Most of the lowest IQ people I know do that. I was seriously thinking about why. The only answer is survival. When people are too dumb to think by themselves and find the correct solutions, they follow others. If the majority does something it must be correct. That is their way of finding solution being unable to create them. They exploited this process and using the media and internet they push ideas pretending those idea come from the majority. Idiots immediately follow

Partially, perhaps. I also see it as a form of a ritual of submission in that societal hierarchy. In the end it won't matter if it's due to devotion or fear, the (hypothetical) person is feeding that narrative.

This is true. But also: it is smart for most people to get in a group with smart people and to follow others. The problems arise when the follow bad ideas rather than good
