Primool censorship is a real thing regardless of the outbox issues jb highlighted. If you make fun of the wrong people you could end up just like that guy. And Primool users won’t even know you got shadowbanned because the UI doesn’t tell them what’s happening.

What else is there to understand? Primal has a undisclosed blacklist and their client implements shadowban like behavior. Even Telegram, a centralized platform, has the dignity of displaying a takedown notice on censored content.

This is not the point. Of course they can take down content from their relays and silence npubs at will, I’m not disputing that, I’m pointing out the shady implementation. Why is it not upfront about blocked content instead of pretending it doesn’t exist?

More communication from them would be better, whether the issue is intentional or a technical glitch. Users not jumping to conclusions and spreading FUD would also be prudent.

This is obviously a deliberate design choice somebody made, the shadowban behavior is completely different from when a note is missing (in this case it actually shows a banner explaining that the note could not be found). If they just filtered the haram content through the cache server and didn’t have custom client side code to handle shadowbanning it would display the same placeholder with the note not found message. And regardless of the bad UX, I don’t see any explanation on the app itself or its AppStore page about the existence of said blacklist. I would love to be proven wrong but even if they were to update the app and make it more transparent about censored content, it could simply be a damage control move and not a genuine change of heart. Goodwill is a scarce resource and it’s a shame they have burned on dumb shit like this. I was really looking forward to the upcoming liquid glass UI.
