I couldn't get past the second item without investing a bit of critical thought on the "ignorance" here. Here's a few quick thoughts from my prompting a clanker:

As I suspected, it's likely a language and translation issue. Modern popularization of classical Greek philosophy and epistemology is plagued by lax scholarship and sloppy translation as well as mendacious interpretation.

I think the classical stoics were more concerned about the moral imperatives of treating your actions and thoughts (intentions) as investments in pursuit of a life of virtue (integrity). But we need to view that without the biases of Christian/Abrahamic notions of authoritarian monotheistic "virtue." The ancient greeks had somewhat different conceptions of vice and virtue.

On the other hand I'm also pretty sure that we greatly underestimate the degree to which classical Greek philosophy influenced Christianity (through the scribes who set the earliest gospels from oral tradition into written form) and also that we greatly underestimate or deliberately obscure the degree to which both ancient Judaic and Grecian philosophies were influenced by more ancient Zoroastrian and other eastern philosophical strains. Cultural appropriation is not a recent invention and it's been a major factor in Western civilization for millennia.
