somehow I got her to fly π½π

I just crossed my fingers and updated. Decided that if it was too fucked up I would just be done with it. We'll see π
I could never make this my main client or operating system. Iβm but a tourist on Android.
I feel that way about anything that isn't Graphene or GNU/Linux. It's interesting how people differ that way. Although, I am open to trying new things that meet the same criteria. Just haven't found anything else that does yet. Having options is healthy.
Having real issues since updated π
So Iβve been hearing. Now everyone just has to configure theirβ¦
β’Β Public Outbox/Home Relays
β’Β Public Inbox Relays
β’Β DM Inbox Relays
β’Β Private Home Relays
β’ Proxy Relays
β’ Broadcast Relays
β’ Indexer Relays
β’ Search Relays
β’ Local Relays
β’ Trusted Relays
β’ Blocked Relays
Piece of cake, right? What are people so confused about?
Wait whaaa
Just don't bother, that's my solution. If you're shouting in the void, then so am I lol
Every OS is shit. You just get to decide which shit you're comfortable with.
I feel like that a lot lately
This is the first thing a new Amethyst user sees after creating their profile.
Couldnβt possibly be simpler and more straightforward.

Those are really terrible relay settings, tho. π
Defaults gonna default.
I feel you're not understanding the primary users Amethyst caters to. They look something like this

We're cooking

They look like this:

Shit! I thought you were joking in the note above π°
All of those settings can simply by replaced by nostr.land. Done.
This is why I don't post selfies. It scares the kids.
I have Land π and TheForest π²
One need not joke about Amethyst relays, sir.

Airplane was a great movie.
Funny thing I only felt shouting to the void when using the βbig networksβ but not on nostr, each and every single one of its 30 users reply back and we all can have amazing conversations (and flamewars π) without stupid bots and algorithms getting in the way.
Quality over quantity, something something.

The point of outbox is that all of the other lists are optional. Set YOUR outbox and everyone you follow has their outbox relays dynamically served to you.
If you want to do a blast broadcast, specify a proxy relay, or makesure your DMs go through a specific relay, THAT is when it gets complicated because you are a power user.
Those toggles aren't for the average user. Literally selecting default relays works for 99% of people.
If thatβs true, maybe the app should be clear about this, because if I were a new user, it would confuse the hell out of me, and even as someone who has used Nostr clients for 3 years, itβs way more than I want to or should need to think about. The UX could be instantly improved by hiding all of those other options in an βAdvanced Relay Settingsβ page.
I mean, Amethyst is marketed as "a client with everything" it is for the power user. It literally describes each relay function in grey right below the title. I'm not sure this is "more than I want to or should need to think about." If you don't want to think about it, hit "default" and never worry about it. If you want to adjust things then do so.
If you say so. Iβm reading the chatter and there are a bunch of people who are pretty confused by the settings screen and theyβre not exactly noobs.
π

Yeah, but also, nobody reads anymore so there's a bit of user error involved.
When things aren't intuitive (like brand new ways of serving data) sometimes you have to read a 2 sentence summary instead of having flashy "Do it for me" buttons.
Everything is a tradeoff. New awesome stuff but you have to read; your notes don't reach their audience but you don't have to read. π€·
This is a perfect opportunity to add in a new feature flow that helps explain what the new awesome stuff is all about.
I see
That's exactly what I meant in my conclusion π
Amethyst is awesome. In its own way.

Learning curve of popular Nostr clients

Many have defaults you can set. Some are optional. All have text describing what they do.
Users shouldnβt care about this! It should be automated be default.
Thatβs what I thought, but several Amethyst users assured me itβs much better this way.
Lmao
Donβt say this out loud! Not allowed here. You will learn to code, make your own client, AND configure all of your own relays after you set up your own, as well as your own blossom server. And if your key leaks, well, youβre just an idiot then.
BRB, learning how to vibe code π

Yup same!! I hear you my dude
I tried using it as a proxy relay, but some notes were gone.
You need to use aggr. and have a paid subscription.
I do have a sub, i dont remember about aggr. Can try again.
Just watched airplane a couple nights agoβ¦ timeless classic π
@Vitor Pamplona you have to admit itβs a lil funny π
It is. :)
You could have Amethyst only chat rooms and everyone would be galaxy π§
Well setting aggr as proxy did not end well. I cannot see on Amethyst any new notes, and relay manager does not allow me to remove aggr from proxies. I am writting this from iris ...
Did you add it to trusted relays as well?
Ok, let me try that now.
Still the same, last note is from 15h ago. When I open relay menu I see this kind of notices: , NOTICE: Subscription closed: 2Z8Nsj auth-required: auth required for aggregator. Is authentication maybe not working?
Odd. Try restarting the app.
It seems better after clearing storage and reloging. Clearing cache did not help. Still I cannot change proxy relay list π So weird.
Well finally an update to 1.02.1 solved everything π€¦ββοΈ
I love amethyst π
Haha is that my issue?
That would apply to #NOSTR clients as well. π
Yes
all oses have their flaws (obviously) but theres a os that is free of ads called chromeos.
I upgraded and now I have 600 hundred fukkin relays listed in "connected relays" section, wha?!!!
i think the connected relays section (that you cannot edit) is not a happy feature, because its confusing.
Itβs everyone who you followβs outbox relays, apparently.
