GM I choose to smile through it all. Unfortunately, that also means I’m an inappropriate laugher. It’s a stress response that has definitely caused some trouble, usually when someone is being confrontational. Is laughter the best medicine? image

Gm Helen. Laughter is definitely the best medicine under all circumstances (I have a similar laughing issue 😆) but the people on the receiving end of it may disagree
Totally get this, and yes it is the best medicine for sure. Not sure if you watched the Mary Tyler Moore Show…but sometimes I feel like Mary at the clown’s funeral.

I've found that in nearly every case where I can be mad at something, it's also societally acceptable to laugh. However, if it's a subconcious coping mechanism, and frequently results in a misinterpretation of ridicule, I could see how some re-programming might be beneficial. If it is a subconscious response, it is probably a defensive measure that started early in life. If it's just you choosing to not be angry, the receiving party can stuff it!
I learned something very important from the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer: No matter how rich, healthy, famous, or otherwise wonderful someone may be, it’s always worth asking, “But is he happy?” Only when someone is laughing - the question is pointless.
In fact I discovered him nearly 40 years ago, devoured his entire body of work—and I can say this: What I learned from him made me “happy”. "The fool strives for happiness. The wise man strives not to become unhappy." I chose the latter, and it has served me well.

GM Helen ☕️ Same here 😄 I’m always smiling or laughing, even in the most random or tense moments. It’s definitely a stress response for me too, but honestly, I’d rather laugh than carry that weight. Might not always be “appropriate,” but it keeps the spirit light… and yeah, sometimes it really is the best medicine.
OMG I can relate! 🙈 I laugh when I’m nervous and it’s got me into a lot of trouble 😅 I laugh at most things in life tho, which I think is a strength, but people can misinterpret it as disrespect or being flippant. So I’m trying to learn to be a better communicator by harnessing my power and using it more effectively rather than an uncontrolled reactive response.
