If follower counts are hard to do on nostr idk how anything like this could be done … outside of trying to cache all the relayed notes into a big cache layer that is dolled out with analytics attached… but at that point why not just have a database and do a centralized thing

most relays don't have any facility to reveal the number of times events have been delivered at all let alone narrowing it down by anything better than IP addresses. so, yeah, nah. and good, because fuck that shit. if you can monitor everything you can censor it.

I guess the closest would be Primal Studio, but it’s quite expensive if I remember correctly… It’s just irrelevant metrics imo because it can be heavily abused with bots.

it would take a lot of extra code to add this ability to one relay but it would only apply to the ones that have it and have it activated. i would oppose any such thing on the basis of performance alone let alone creepiness.

These kinds of metrics (follower counts, like counts, total views, etc.) just don’t work well in a decentralized protocol. And they don’t even work well on centralized platforms like Instagram and etc. because of all the bot accounts. You would literally need to require ID verification to get accurate metrics, because then creating bot accounts becomes impossible (if we assume one ID can only be associated with one account). But we should obviously fight against requirements for ID verification. I’m just saying, these metrics are not ever going to be accurate, and especially not on a decentralized protocol, unless it’s a centralized platform that has some ID verification as I explained. So if they aren’t accurate, why even care about those metrics?
