If figma provides value to you, why not pay?
i ditched figma for FOSS penpot, i need every last sat for nostr and im willing to risk being abandoned by design to put my foot down.
opensource or bust.
Because it's losing value for me, slowly but surely. I've seen this multiple times before; it never ended well. They have been in Adobe mode for some time now. Adding gimmicks, cluttering the app. The app becomes slower and slower. They are degrading the experience constantly and, at the same time, increasing prices constantly. 101 Adobe.
The only values that keep me from switching are community and resources, nothing else.
Penpot is nice, they've came a long way. I'm keeping my eye on it. Still not there for me, but not that far either. A bit better pen tool and snapping, and I would very likely switch.
When the components and the design system stuff works as good as in figma, I will switch to #penpot.
But i guess my clients won’t for a long time, since figma became a monopoly 😒
They’ll keep squeezing as long as they have the best product - and they do.
I wouldn't mind the price increase if they were adding something valuable to vector editing tools, and they aren't. Figma still lacks the object origin point, but it has added many gimmicks in the meantime.
They do have the best product, but for how long? Sketch is catching up, Penpot is getting better every day, Canva bought Serif, and the founder of Modulz is developing a new design application.
