This is definitely not the first report that I've heard about this happening at defcon. Sad really.
I don't think so. Defcon people bring scary electronics like laptops, exposed circuit boards, and pelican cases of gear.
Besides the people running audio at Nashville, the most scary electronics I saw was a guy with grapheneOS installed on a pixel.
There's so many conferences in October! Bah! This one looks dope though.
I made the mistake once of thinking bitcoin conferences were obviously going to be technical. I've learned to change my expectations.
Yeah, some of them are, but most aren’t. You’ll want to check out btc++ as well
(Both highly technical)
There were stories like this a decade ago from what I recall. Don't organize security conferences in a city run by maffia?
SURPRISED IT DOES NOT HAPPEN MORE OFTEN TBH.
EVERYONE SHOULD OPERATE UNDER THIS EXPECTATION.
Hotel doesn’t just do this on their own. There are emails to be found.
>Don’t organize security conferences in a city
Yup
The emails were accidentally deleted during a data migration when all the engineers happened to be struck down with narcolepsy.
That's why I'm only going to testnet conferences.
😭😭😭
Big conferences are honey pots.
This is DEFCON
some people I know are attending. I hope they are OK. This is part of why I don't really love large gatherings
New business idea: lawfirm hotel.
Fuck that shit illegal they need your permission if you don’t give it they can NOT enter your paid room without warrant…
Casino-mafia money. Don’t mess with them.
👀
They can search through my memes no problemo! 😂
But also 😳😬🤮
Isn’t next year’s Bitcoin magazine conference in vegas?
I started with $1000 and invested it with my coach, who helped me earn $6k in just 6 hours. This experience has been completely legitimate and safe, and I highly recommend investing with my coach. @Contact him now to start earning and see the amazing results for yourself!
I’m not sure that’s legal wtf
If I were paying to have an event there and they did that to my attendees without ever warning us, I would be pissed. That’s something they need to bring up in the first place.
Yeah, I couldn’t agree more
That hasn't mattered for years. Operational rules are "take action, let the courts decide later".
For context, Vegas hotels are currently pissed at defcon and attendees because last year, MGM got ransomwared right after defcon. So not to say they won’t with bitcoin attendees, but they feel threatened by defcon attendees specifically.
Well yes good point
