Vibe = Publishing your content directly on Nostr.
Not-a-vibe = Publishing on other platforms and sharing a link here that opens there.
The excitement of seeing creators on Nostr comes largely from publishing ON Nostr. Creators on those platforms are a dime a dozen. Don’t send us there; keep us here.

Catch 22, outside of strictly or bitcoin related topics there doesn’t seem to be much interaction or demand for various and/or niche content.
Creators want tons of engagement to post, consumers want tons of content to engagement with.
Maybe it’s just a numbers game in the end. More people of all kinds onboarded may lead to the same distributions as other social networks.

The catch 22 only exists if you’re talking going nostr-only. Depending on your goals it may or may not make sense to go nostr-only. For most creators, it probably doesn’t. Nostr can be part of a creator/brand’s larger social media strategy. But whatever they do publish here needs to be published here if at all possible. Linking out from to some other platform for the sake of convenience, or to try and drive views/impressions on that platform, is a quick way to lose interest here.

I’m trying to do exactly this with my newsletter. I started publishing it directly on Nostr (tbf, I’m also publishing it on substack, but let’s take it step-by-step).
Creators can host their own content. It's not that expensive and if they're monetarising their content the hosting is part of the cost of doing business. Also, if they run it like a business the cost for hosting your own data is tax deductible as business expense.
I think the file storage would be super expensive and plebs don't have a lot of money. Needs a big donor, one shot.
I love that idea. Most nostriches love that idea. But very few people are going to DO that. The vast majority of people need one streamlined solution like YouTube, simple and easy. And free. Without that we get more of the same here on Nostr.
File storage is actually cheap and having to pay for it will make some creators - with less money - think more about the quality of their content and the amount of content they upload. But tbh, established creators aka influencers who have been around for a while should be able to afford their ownb blossom server, online cloud storage or Amazon plob. Unless they've sold their Bitcoin.
You seem to think everyone is open to paying for storage and running servers, etc. That's not the real world, my friend. _You_ are extremely savvy, everyone else is not. And they want free and they will get free one way or the other. That's reality.

Flare.pub started as a decent effort, and even had opensats grant funding. It was disappointing when the dev moved onto other things.
Artists are finding their way to Nostr and bitcoin / privacy adjacent content is growing

I didn't say everyone. I said content creators - who expect to get zapped for their content on nostr while they're already monetarising that content elsewhere. Some of them even said things like "people don't zap enough on nostr". Why would I zap your external content on nostr if you're only sharing it here to get zapped?
Also, signing up for cloud storage on sites like satellites or nostr.build takes literally 1 minute and the only skill required is knowing how to settle a LN invoice.

Just want to confirm that nostr.build is damn easy to implement IF you understand that content is uploaded based on just the npub signing media with nostr.build set as the media upload option in clients. It took me a bit to figure that out. A guide could easily fix that friction though. Once I got it, I couldn't imagine going back to the old bullshit.
nostr.build is great and if blossom is too complicated, there is many providers out there offering cloud storage. Some cheaper than blossom providers.
Bottom line is, the majority is either not interested or too lazy to make their content available natively on nostr. I think
@fractalchris also didn't differ between the average nostr user - sharing internet content - and creators/influencers who're making a living on their content.
I have no problem with anyone sharing YT videos (or other external content) on nostr. In fact, you should. Someone else's content isn't yours to download to monetarise it elsewhere. But seeing creators - who've been around for a long time - trying to make the case on how their own storage would be to expensive well, that's just ridiculous.
