i assume it will be more user-friendly, pre-packaged hardware that works out of the box. i havent tried anything like the openwrt one. im a simple man, if you point me to a guide i can follow to build my own then i mught attempt it. if i have to research a bunch then i might never take the time to figue it out.
I have a 24x1G + 4x10G switch which feeds into all sorts of stuff (APs, devices) and the SFPs connect to the router, NAS and my desktop (the desktop is connected via Cat6 with a 10GBASE-T SFP, the others are MM fiber)

What's wrong with openwrt? Just install it on a used tplink
