So I’m driving around in suburbia on a rainy Saturday, and there’s this one guy on the roof of a bank with a ladder. Part of me is like “who works alone on a roof on the weekend?” And the other part is like “Nobody robs banks anymore, and I mean it’s right in daylight on a crowded corner, so of course it’s legit.” Probably the funnier point, regardless of what this guy is doing, is that if you just do something with enough confidence, a lot of people will believe you probably belong there. image

A worker uniform or a clipboard will get you almost anywhere
Every now and then I read a story about bank safe deposit boxes such as this. At first, it freaked me out. Then I discovered seed XOR. Safe deposit boxes are convinient, but if it get's robbed, you'll want a backup. If you split your seed and use multisig, you can add redundancy to safe deposit box failures. You can bury several copies of part B seed XOR seeds in Australia, but keep part A close to home. If your safe deposit box is robbed, you're out a plane ticket to Australia, but you won't lose your life savings. https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/22/us/us-money-laundering-indictment-trnd/index.html

Just like a government, trying to rob you while looking confident.
Working on the roof alone is apparently the norm now. I had an Internet installer get stuck on the roof after hours at a place I work. His ladder had fallen down and apparently his office was closed so they couldn't send anyone to help him. He ended up sitting there for an hour while I drove over to stand up his ladder. Seems like a serious safety hazard.
I've done energy audits as an energy engineer before on banks and that did include getting up on the roof of the bank with a ladder to check out the roof mounted HVAC equipment. Doing a building energy audit means looking everywhere and taking a bunch of notes. Likewise, scouting a bank to pull off a heist means looking everywhere and taking a bunch of notes.
You should write a Short Story about it. „Roofed on the Weekend“ maybe or „The Bank climb“
People do rob banks -- I worked with a bartender who'd done time for it. They just don't get very much. Literally better off maxing a credit card and not paying it off. By a long shot. But addicts gotta score...

I keep an orange vest in my vehicle at all times for this reason. Combine with cation lights and nobody doubts what you are doing.
"If you just do something with enough confidence, a lot of people will believe you" Coincidentally that is the business of the bank - confidence

It’s called normalcy bias. We just think it’s cool. But it might not be.
