I really need to start pulling out a good chunk of my paycheck as cash each month so I can start buying #monero with cash by mail. Anyone got any tips when doing cash by mail?
How seriously should I take all the "use multiple layers of envelopes with distinct markings" "film you putting the cash in and giving it to the mail clerk" type stuff?

Very serious.
On RetoSwap?
Think it depends which country your in. In the UK the postal service is pretty good and I would still send cash by post as tracked and in a card, I think the insurance evens covers carrying cash but I have never needed to use it
Of course, that's the only way I buy xmr, but I've never bought too much at a time because of the paper trail other methods leave
I'll have to check what the insurance covers here 🫡
When you say "in a card" you mean like a greeting/birthday/christmas card or something along those lines?
Or a piece of card if there is a obvious money sized shaped bulge it give the contents away a bit instead of being percieved as 'an important document that needs signing' or something else paper based that might be send by fast tracked delivery.
Ah ok yeah that makes sense, I guess putting it in a birthday card might actually increase the odds of being opened by someone looking for cash. Good shit good shit
"Totally feel ya on that! Gotta keep it low-key, ya know? 🤫 How do you usually scoop it up without raising eyebrows? #XMR"
You should use a virtual office of some sort, NOT your real address or P.O Box or equivalent.
It's also a good idea to use a re-routing service in addition to a virtual address. nostr:npub1drk8c6mxj9mt7ahvu6pdy85teflh3mpj27q32ftdnz9tq7nj8vpqjckm0j provides re-routing.
Even just for buying? i.e. as the return address?
What's the threat model here, like I can definitely see why not telling the seller where you sleep at night is good, but I feel like this wouldn't be enough to fool the IRS?
*Fool the IRS in the case of an audit/honeypot
For a return address you can just use an address from the Sex Offender Registry.
