I just made a huge mistake experimenting with the Obsidian API and accidentally deleted my entire note of "Bitcoin & Lightning Tools" bookmarks that I've collected for YEARS and I'm so fucking upset. I executed a PUT instead of a POST (replace instead of append) without realizing. There seems to be no way to recover it. There was shit on that list that I will likely never be able to find again. This legit sucks. 😭

Don’t you have some phone / tablet laying around with a previously synced version ? Not familiar with Obsidian but if there is an old device with the content on it you might be able to recover it, off course make sure to not connect the device to the internet.

So sorry to hear. Somebody mentioned recovery tools. If it’s still possible you will want to kill power, pull the drives, and make a hash verified copy of the drive. 😔
My sister once said to me that if you took everyone’s problems and put them on a table in front of you, you’d still pick your own. As much as this sucks, it’s not a cancer diagnosis mate!
That sucks Guy, I suggest looking into using git to backup your notes.
Having done similar with not so important stuff that's a gut punch. Especially when it's you doing it and you know you know better... sorry for you mate 😥
You store the markdown files locally on your machine, so you can manually version control/backup however you want. I use periodic git backups for mine, but I also use their Sync service, which I think lets you restore old file versions too. 🤔
Hi Guy. I'm a regular listener to Bitcoin Audio. Keep up the great work! I got a question... So i have friends in South Asia and i got them on Nostr and Lightning (WOS) but frequently the internet gets shut off due to unrest,etc... Is there any solution to use it offline, even on a temporary basis?
There is an extension you can get apparently. I still 100% recommend Obsidian, but be careful with the API. Otherwise I have absolutely no complaints and love this program

Login to your iCloud and you may find it. They keep deleted files for 30 days last I checked
It does but it’s tricky. I’ve fucked my vaults up plenty of times. It depends more if you save it in iCloud vs obsidian sync
GOT IT BACK! Literally just went to the actual .md file itself instead of messing with icloud or Obsidian, and Mac Versions still had an edit history of a few days. Got all the links back 💜💜
Post your bookmarks to nostr to make sure they don't ever do that again? Would probably also benefit everyone else? (Just double check nothing with keys/personal stuff ;) )

Believe or not, I was actually thinking about a decentralized obsidian and notion alternative before discovering Nostr. I believe Nostr can be a good platform to implement such a software. Will work on it.
