He wanted nostr to work over tor. At the time, it was a really rough experience.
But everything was rough. I started to recognize people by robots and npubs 😅 it's wild how far everything has come along since then.

What's that first claim about?
I follow some influential product people at Cash App / Block and every new feature lately seems to be influenced by things that came about from a nostr-related Jack-idea. For example, they use the BitChat idea to make local cash send. Then they add parental controls and allowance (two accounts connected in a relational way).
Things are pointing towards Cash App becoming an everything app.
Will it turn into its own social network?
I think it already is in many ways.
It nailed the identity/trust and the commerce/services part. Just needs to add a couple small things to make the social/messaging a bit more robust.
Maybe it is more productive to convince Jack to make it more open protocols friendly. Would be awesome if he gave all users an MNS names whether they want it or not. I also wish he creates a Bitcoin backed stablecoin that is pegged to a basket of currencies or PoW or the price of Bitcoin in electricity around the world etc... and make that on Rootstock + statechains or other scaling solution.
Open protocols are usually not the hard part, it is the product market fit and user base.
Actually I don't mind if you onboard users to MNS, I would much rather though if he pull the rug from under USD backed stablecoins and redirect that insane demand to a more geopolitically neutral basket of commodities and make it pay fees to Bitcoin mimers
They recently added stablecoins to cash app that auto-convert to BTC.
