I'm not sure if you are familiar with rivets but if you drill a small hole in the upholstery, you could use rivets and get a mechanical connection instead of an adhesive connection.

Yeah it's already screwed, but the other side of the plastic is the same furry carpet and will look good once it's secured in place. Not sure why they needed this extra layer in the first place. I had some gorilla glue I was going to use, but it expired so I figured I'd see if anyone had a better idea before I bought more.

I wonder if the rough side of Velcro would work?
