To publish there you must include the "-" tag (NIP-70), which means others can't take your post and automatically republish it elsewhere because other relays won't accept the post unless it is published by your own hands (with AUTH).
The "-" is supported in most relays, but obviously any relay can decide to not support it and spread content against the will of the publisher, so do not use it for anything really private unless you trust all the people you follow to not rebroadcast your stuff.
Because no client supports publishing with a "-" tag currently I placed a simple form there on the landing page that will do that arduous task of adding a "-" to the event before publishing it.
That's very cool.
Also it uses your follow list by default for deciding who can read your notes, but if you want to do a custom list you can easily achieve that by publishing a custom kind:3 follow list to Lockbox specifically (using a "-" tag so it won't get spreaded to other relays) and then Lockbox will read from that custom list.
Maybe this is the beginning of paid access. Just follow those who paid you and they will have access to your content.

Very cool, but I wish you didn't overload the follow list with this extra function. It would be nice to have a separate 10xxx list to manage who can access my content.

That was my starting point, but I figured most people would want to naturally segregate this stuff by their follow list anyway in the beginning.
Now you can argue that a 10xxx list won't be great either because I may want to have separate lists for different types of content, so maybe use a 30xxx list and give different relays different list ids to use? You could also use a proprietary database that is configured only in that specific relay and doesn't sync anywhere and that wouldn't be bad either. There are many ways of approaching this.
We could also use individual events since I think these lists are going to be massive.
That seems like a hassle to maintain, no?
Another client can simply automate it by looking at the paid list for the month and regenerating all events.

I like this. I know it'll take some time to gain footing, but I think this will alleviate a lot of concern for many. One the few endearing things about FB is the ability to expand and contract one's reach, without needing to be in some secret club or topic oriented group.

No, you wouldn't.
Well, if the note shows up on a relay that implements NIP-70 then you know you're the one who broke your own trust (or your client, without you knowing it).
There is a way to know who broke the trust: you have to sign a different event for each person that comes asking the relay for the content, just adding their pubkey in a tag, for example. It's kinda ugly but should work great. The problem is that it requires the relay to be able to sign notes on your behalf, which is doable with NIP-46 bunkers.
Once you know who pirated your content you should be able to kick that person out of your selected whitelist if that's your goal.

what happens if they share a post only intended for them?
The events have a NIP-70 "-" tag that advises relays to not accept it unless it's published directly by the author, and most of our big popular relays support that already, so they won't accept the event. I'm hoping support will become more widespread.
But there will probably always be relays specialized in disrespecting such tags and other ways of sharing exclusive content in the dark corners of the internet, so it will always be technically possible to share an "exclusive" post. In the end even with all the cryptography in the world screenshots are unstoppable.
