The first step would be to actually take responsibility for all the insane bullshit he does. He retweeted that it was someone elses code to deflect just five hours ago. Insane! He spent the evening deleting tweets that show why he changed the code to follow a different closed license. He is going to be sued into oblivian, so disclosing his stack and creating a way to compensate users is a minimum.

Drop the bitcoin security stuff and stick to fun things. image
I wouldn't have gotten myself in his mess in the first place. But if I did, I would return all provably stolen funds within my own capacity. In case I didn't have enough funds to do so, I would pay back a decent percentage to everyone, so at least they're not at 0. We all know he likely won't do any of this though. I don't know how afraid he is of ramifications currently but I sure as hell would be.
I'd apologize and disappear. But If I had thousands of BTC stored somewhere, I'd definitely reimburse every sat lost by this horrible fuckup and disappear.
I'd probably evaluate my life choices and repent. Whatever the opposite of what nvk will probably end up doing.
In medieval romances there is a common theme of how to handle a big fuck up, the path of Yvain: ~Loses his sanity. ~Tears off his clothes and flees into the forest. ~Lives as a wild man, surviving on roots and hunted animals. ~Wanders naked and disconnected from civilization until he is eventually healed by a magical ointment and cared for by a noblewoman. This path is perfect because one just disappears for a year or two, comes back acting a little shell shocked and remorseful. But if you're twitchy enough no one will want to bring it up around you. You can just proceed with life and leave the mess behind you.

This is who he is. And to be honest, there was an entire cadre of people who would attack anyone who raised questions over the years. People wanted to be in the cool club, get invites, get grants, get zaps and that protected him from obvious psycho behavior.

Stay humble, admit where mistakes made, and work like a motherfucker to help try and recover stolen sats.
Yea there was always this element. On one hand multiple secure elements, on the other, let's throw in NFC and USB and Bluetooth??? There's an irony in this hubris coming out while the Odyssey is in theaters.
Delete evidence, blame open source devs, blame users, refuse to engage with the victims, write misleading explanations of why I changed the code, disappear from nostr where I can't control post history, delete tweets to control the narrative. Or do you mean if I had my character instead of his but made the same mistake? I honestly think there is a very real chance if he had character this wouldn't have happened.
Given his personality traits, the best outcome I would hope for is for him to step back from CoinKite daily business and let somebody more open and empathetic lead. Allow issue trackers for a start. Allow criticism without threatening to sue.
Probably hire non-psychopath to take his place and quietly disappear from the space while financially supporting open source devs for at least 2 years. Then gradually come back into space humbled. I bet the opposite will happen. It will be "I have to fight this battle to win the power back", etc
You can't prove all the effected bitcoin were stolen except those addreseee that were all transferred immediately before disclosure. Just want to point that out.
