π¨ IF YOU ARE RECOMMENDING WALLET OF SATOSHI YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM π¨
It's just as easy to recommend Muun, Phoenix or Breez and start people with self-custody.
Do we really have to push people to Wallet of Satoshi so they can be rugged in the future?
WE CAN DO BETTER

Yes agreed the whole idea behind that is Wos is much much more user friendly then the self custody wallets you suggested those wallets arenβt for the non tech savvy peepsβ¦
The whole idea of channels nodes can be off putting.. The goal here is to on board peeps to Bitcoin start small eventually the rabbit hole will take overβ¦ well thatβs my 2 Sats anyway
If you are recommending Muun, you are part of the problem.
For self custody, Breez and Phoenix are fine
How are they going to pay for opening a channel or even know that it means?
And why do you think that phoenix or breez can't rugpull you. It's not like you're actually running your own node
How do you get a person who doesnβt even know what a satoshi is to run a node? With your own node, how do you self custody?
Without
How do you self custody without your own node? π€
While I fully agree in theory, and personally choose those over WoS as much as possible, I have found the following from experience:
(Tl;dr If you have time, definitely go with a self-custodial option!
If not (onboarding a busy server for eg), better use WoS than nothing and strongly let them know to study self-custody (and send them a link to my book at ;)
Notes:
- WoS works almost flawlessly, while the others have different issues crop up pretty regularly (eg: slow, pmt wonβt go thru etc)
- Muun doesnβt have/accept LNURLs, non-standard back-up
- Phoenix and Blixt require an initial fee to open a channel, which while makes total sense, is not easy to explain/activate when one has just a couple mins to onboard an Uber driver or a busy waitress for example.
- Self-custody *requires* having a discussion about seed back-up/storage/security, which again takes time.
The Simplest Bitcoin Book Ever Written – to orange pill anyone!

The very reason for suggesting WoS is novelty.
With a static receive qr code, you can use the power of social media to send packets of dopamine and with ln addresses, they can see something familiar.
We don't have these very useful features (or similar alternatives) yet on custodial wallets.
When Zeus brings out their solution, that may change things.
Phoenix all the way!
You are running your own node
Disagree
Nope. I don't even know where that node is located
Muun is a joke man. Don't recommend muun.
Sure. What's a self custodial Lightning wallet with Lightning address support that's easy for a brand new person to the Bitcoin space to use? π
This π
Muun is dog shit.
WoS is great for noobs.. they have sats inside 30 seconds, enough for the hook to be placed.
Their journey then starts to self custody over time as they learn more.
Naming wallets that can't receive zaps on nostr went over like a fart in church, as expected.
What about GetAlby ??? #getalby
Try onboarding a noob to Phoenix and tell us how that goes lol
Exactly
For users joining #nostr they need a Lightning address to receive zaps. This is currently only possible with either a custodial wallet or a complicated process that involves running your own node and a webserver.
We encourage new users to learn about different wallet types. Since Lightning is nearly free to use, sats can be sent from WoS to a better long-term self-custody solution. We recommend Phoenix and Breez over Muun based on how they function.
The Lightning ecosystem wasnβt prepared for the sudden surge in usage and developers are playing catch-up. Weβre keeping a close eye on new products such as #[0] and others that are building new tools for self-custodial Lightning.
Thanks for all you do, #[1] π§‘
Exactly!
