The nostr protocol can literally be anything and everything. In fact, I hope it will be so in the future.
What we have is, yet again, the same push that has been plaguing humanity since the beginning of time: centralization and accumulation of influence, which is then bent towards nefarious ends.
The struggle playing out, that you've noticed, is the same struggle mankind has had, and yet, most these days are very ill-equipped to come out on top. I know most people would reject "religious" framing, but, it is, inevitable that only the people who are aligned with The Truth can have the correct time preference needed and the mental and moral framework to comprehend how to build an entirely new infrastructure that can underpin true freedom of information without the fetters of centralization, "influence peddling," and gross manipulation.
(For the record, as a follower of Christ, it is my faith and hope that Jesus is the real, unabrogated, uninterrupted, and eternal Truth, not some mere classical logical puzzle or gnostic/pharmacological/occult nonsense. Basically, if your perspective isn't that of building heaven here on earth, and expecting your works to build and grow and last literally forever, you don't have the right perspective to vs doing anything consequential. I am aware that many would take umbrage to all of my claims in this aside, but, I literally could not care less since everyone, IMO, needs Jesus and nothing and no one else can save us from ourselves and the hasty destruction we tend to invite on ourselves without The Best Guide leading the way.)
