You have to realize the Bitcoin Conference is a giant networking game to "have a seat at the table". I've attended it twice, had a great time, but realized what it is quickly. That being said, to my friends that are attending especially for work or even pleasure, please have fun, but raise your awareness and speak out when you can.
At best, this event is entertainment and incredible connections with brilliant humans. And worst is what it's become, a big shiny platform for the elite class of politicians, bankers, and regulators, Bitcoin was made to rescue us from.
While champions of Bitcoin and freedom are sent to PRISON for contributing to privacy by writing code, a fed that wants to ensure no one else tries that again is speaking at the main stage, you can't make this stuff up.
The centralization of one big bitcoin club creates a culture of mainstream, and that's exactly how you get a controlled narrative pushed by the wrong people. This is the evolution of a big industry (Big Bitcoin?) that once was as punk and grassroots as can be. And now it's become a machine to influence where capital and attention gets directed.
And it's directed at things that make that big club money, not improving Bitcoin's attributes to empower humanity.
Bitcoin's social layer is proving to be our biggest weakness. Because up top, these big networks always have a self-reinforcing pressure that makes going against the grain extremely risky. It's the same evolutionary mindset of going against your tribe, the risk of being outcasted then dying off is high. Your favorite and biggest figures in Bitcoin know very well that their sponsors, conference invites, guest appearances, and investments all depend on this. None of them will callout and boycott David Bailey and the conference for what it is because of this.
But it's simple. Anything anybody does that does not improve Bitcoin's decentralization, privacy, security, self-custody, and grassroots community - eventually becomes a grifter in the space to make money.
Remember that Bitcoin doesn't have central servers, so reject them at the social layer like your node would in the protocol layer. We should never idolize and let the big stages get this influential. Direct your energy more to meetups, regional conferences, and projects you can see benefiting your life as a Bitcoiner.

I can't wait for Bitcoin to become the threat to the Nation State it was always intended to be...
Mega exchanges/casinos, KYC-ing anything touching close to Bitcoin, imprisoning developers, stable coins, blacklisting “dangerous” addresses, taxing the shit out of it, glorified influencers pushing agendas.
^If these keep up, instead of the nation state, Bitcoin may become a bigger threat to bitcoiners who’ve poured their hearts and life savings into it.
Wow, incredibly similar post. We are paying attention 🤙
Hahaha right?! Saw yours and immediately thought the same thing
Spot on 🎯
Bitcoin is a social experiment. The conference reflects a certain element of the same. Unfortunately, not always a great element. But we should remember that we are blessed.
Already is
AMEN
Great thoughts this morning 🙏
Human nature was always bitcoin’s biggest threat
No more “stages”. This is a huge attack vector. We have podcasts which are a much more effective decentralized format. Stages and massive speeches are a fiat tactic based on a false sense of authority.
Besides - They just had literal feds propagandizing Bitcoiners on their own stage. This is public humiliation. We need to start boycotting these conferences and start meetups/ events without public speeches. Just entertainment and BTC vendors.
It’s very tricky because being around that many bitcoiners and freedom seekers is undescribably electric and a necessity for communities. No amount of podcasts can replace the in person connection.
The challange is the incentives of commercializing and growing a conference too much. And Bailey/ BitMag already has a laundry list of shit they’ve done on top of turning this conference into a Trojan Horse for our literal enemies.
There’s so many smaller conferences/events with high signal that aren’t welcoming to shitcoinery and suits. These gatherings are absolutely crucial to help us stay connected and grow. They just also need to remain independent.
Podcasts just decentralize the information flow. Public speeches and conferences like these are still an attack vector no matter how small or well intended. Eventually a for profit event will get co opted by fiat materialism or opposers. It’s the centralization effect: the more power you give someone over you, the less likely they will give it back. And conferences do this with info in the guise of “entertainment”.
But you are right about the social connection aspect! I have much better ideas for that. real connection… not some staged event where a select few people get elected to speak to everyone. It should be based around circular economies, music, art and events… much more fun anyway.

The best thing about the conference is that failed company "Nakamoto"'s logo in giant letters at the upper right. Tells us what this is all about.

I love my monthly local meetup. Always come away feeling super positive 🔥

Well said 👏
Well spoken.
David Bailey?
Bitcoin Magazines owner/CEO and Trump’s crypto advisor. They sadly own the words “The Bitcoin Conference” and the biggest one is in America. Which has now turned into a Trojan horse for literal enemies of Bitcoin so they can give speeches.
I didn't know about this. Thank you for the information. 🙏🏻
I wonder if the money spent on those conferences wouldn't be better spent trying to increase awareness of normies about why/how the fiat system sucks and why/how bitcoin is a better alternative. This would increase bitcoin adoption which I guess is the main goal
For example, what if the money was spent on Google, Facebook, YouTube ads, which is where the majority of normies are? Short ads sparking curiosity in them about why the current system sucks, how it affects their lives and pointing them to easy to grasp material (videos, blogs, books, etc) if they want to know more. Wouldn't this be more effective to increase adoption?
You’re right about the conference’s dual nature—it’s both a hub for genuine builders and a stage for power plays. The ETF flow article I read last week shows how financial elites are already reshaping Bitcoin’s market dynamics, often sidelining the original ethos. Worth a skim.
