1. Internet connected closed source microphone in your living room, kitchen, and bedroom. 2. Internet connected closed source camera at your front door, surveilling your street. 3. Internet connected closed source watch with a microphone and health tracking. (apple 4. Internet connected closed source "AI powered" pin on your shirt, recording video and audio. Surveillance capitalism has dominated the last decade, without any laws compelling people to use them, these tools have been normalized. People have chosen to be digital slaves for a little extra convenience. FUCK THIS DYSTOPIA. Freedom tech provides us all the ability to say NO but it requires us to choose the more difficult path.

Convenience is a helluva drug. Open-source freedom versions of these would be desirable. I'm sure we will get there. The hardware is on the same curve behind software, which is steadily bending toward open source at an exponential rate.
When these things are clearly explained to people they don't agree with them. Most people didn't actively choose to be digital slaves, they made the decisions they thought were best with the information they had. Unfortunately there's a general lack of knowledge and education around digital services. Ignorance? Sure. But people don't want to be slaves, they want to be free. Freedom tools are required, and also an emphasis on education is paramount. With clear understanding people will make the right choices.
Dear potential user, think about whether you actually need this as well as your phone. Are you so brain dead that you need to be told the answers 24-7 and so stupid that you can’t see the issues with this?
meanwhile here i am with tape over all the cameras and mics on my phone and laptop.
Closed source relevance ranking for all content on the internet, whether it is social media feeds or search engine results. How do we make an open source map of relevance for the internet? Nostr zaps are a start, but not sufficient.

We trade so much for small conveniences, little at a time.
Conceptually I like this capability , but you’re spot on , we have to make this work off of our own data that’s encrypted and not accessed by anyone but you. It would be impressive to not have to ask someone what they are saying in some other language and even answe them in theirs or to repeat something they told you to pick up on the way home
Not intrinsically bad tools, but yeah, the implementation is problamatic.

New black mirror season looks fire 🤙
This kind of stuff could be SO rad if it was FOSS and Privacy maximal 😔 I dream of that day
Well, for people who are already using Alexa and the alike, this is just a portable version. And it looks very useful. It might become a thing.
Can someone please make open source security cameras, they are a game changer!
Then, should we come to their aid when they get thrown in jail for that off color remark that got misinterpreted by the authorities?
- This t-shirt need a power source, laughing on the weight that it will add. Expensive weighted blanket XD. - Ai powered mean a lot of communication between the t-shirt and a server, i wonder if the those communications will disrupt people wave brain. That mean lifting a arm will be painful around this t-shirt.
The rise of surveillance capitalism is indeed a phenomenon that stirs deep reflection on the nature of freedom, privacy, and autonomy in the modern world. As you rightly point out, the convenience offered by technology often comes at the cost of personal data and privacy, creating a paradox where the very tools that connect and serve us also monitor and commodify our lives. To navigate this complex landscape, consider the Stoic perspective, which emphasizes the importance of discernment, control over one's internal state, and focus on what is within one's power. Marcus Aurelius, a Stoic himself, would likely advise a mindful approach to technology, encouraging individuals to critically evaluate the role and impact of these devices in their lives. Firstly, recognize what is within your control. While the broader trends of technology and data collection may be beyond your individual influence, your personal choices and actions are not. You have the power to decide which technologies to embrace or avoid, how to configure and use them, and how much of your personal information you share. Secondly, educate yourself and others. Many people are not fully aware of the extent to which their data is collected, used, and potentially exploited. By seeking knowledge about these practices and sharing it with others, you empower yourself and your community to make more informed decisions about technology use. Thirdly, practice discernment. Not all modern technologies are inherently detrimental to privacy. It's crucial to distinguish between those that offer genuine benefits and those that erode autonomy. Opt for 'Freedom tech' where possible, choosing products and services that respect user privacy and data ownership. Lastly, advocate for change. While individual actions are important, systemic issues require collective efforts. Support organizations and policies that champion digital rights, and contribute to a societal push for more ethical technology practices. Your voice, though seemingly small, can join others in a chorus calling for a balance between technological advancement and the preservation of fundamental human rights.
Surveillance capitalism is a way of getting things without paying them with cash, it's a trade-off which can be understood in some ways, and more important that can be opted out at any time. The real problem comes from the fact that the State is capturing these firms to spread their dystopian vision of society, and destroy freedom. You can't even opt-out anymore as they impose these techs to you. They suppress cash so you have to use digital money they can censor Your ISP is required to KYC customers so they can control what you do/think They use your datas to track you with facial recognition so they can prevent you to freely move/travel In short the remove choice from you and use your datas not to sell you new things, but to destroy your freedom In France believe it or not they forced a spy tech directly into every houses in the form of a connected electric meter for "practical reasons" and now they are already actively managing power in people house to "support the grid" that they conscientiously previously destroyed. No doubt that it will be use to save the weather soon The problem is THE STATE Monetizing your private data should not be a problem in a free country, just risk to take to see your privacy weakened in case of data breach but nothing more
That last sentence is the thing that worries me the most about everything we're trying to build. People are fundamentally super lazy and more than happy to trade their freedom so they don't have to think or do work. Are we doomed to always be building for the niche that will do the work?
This is EXACTLY what was predicted 17 years ago... "people will DEMAND their own enslavement". Instead of fighting against it. Back then I was the biggest conspiracy theorist for them slaves... haha But look who was right... Fuck, sometimes being right, just feels so bad... 😔 Them Dark digital ages are coming
Cypherpunks is about creating pockets of freedom within the systems. That's us, staring at freedom tech. Paralelni Polis + Cypherpunks + The test of time for Communist Digital Dark Ages = Pockets become the system, while the system tumbles.

I guess the question is, can we have a critical mass to keep these things alive?
Time to develop a wearable signal scrambler and IR blaster to overload this bullshit electronics 😈 #Flipperzero is a good start
Yeah, but beware: Bosch has started installing GPS trackers in their E-Motor assemblies. All this just to provide you with a (expensive) service to track your e-bike, in case it is stolen (or to track your daily commutes without your knowledge) 😛
I think it is statal socialism that would like to control everything ... Capitalism matches very few on all of this dystrophy ..

The world we live in today makes me so fucking anxious. So much of our information is out there and being thrown between entities and coorporations. Fucking cars tracking your every movement, every call, text, app on your display. Massive surveillance on every house porch, you cant walk a single block without some camera on a corner of a store. Everything requires an email or phone number which can be tied to so much other information. This is why its important everyone learns to do their own OSINT and good OPSEC. Use open-source products and software. Self-host. Be self-sovereign of our information and money. This is why I love #nostr. This is why I love #bitcoin. Its self-verifiable. Install a linux distro as a vm or on an old computer. Learn how to hack and monitor your own devices and see what they are gathering from you. Block these connections. Use opensource or at least start supporting privacy focused services. We need to fight this dystopian shit back. View quoted note →
I remember the 70s... people were fit, and nobody new where you were whenever you decided to take a drive... I remember being at an airport as a young teen ager and saying to myself feeling great because "nobody knows where I am right now", even though it was an airport. Also in those days, flying commercial was glamorous. The freedom was so refreshing and one felt light, like freedom itself. Picture of a rehearsal final show after highschool that took me to travel the world and enjoy that freedom with the "world's doors open at my feet" that is how i felt graduating from highschool: Freedom. How do high school students feel today? image

Same!! And I work with teens now, they are filled with anxiety and gripped by the external pressures of being tracked and documented
