Grayjay.app is a good alternative on Android Combines all sources (Youtube, Rumble, Odessey, etc.). No ads or tracking. Open source.
Yeah, try to force sign in, annoying with functionality for no reason (can't lock phone if you don't pay, wtf), ads up the yinyang, hide comments, push slop, ...

Rumble is going enable zaps in December if everything goes well. Maybe worth to consider?
I only go there for like music I can't find elsewhere. Hate the app and behavior. Google is hopefully getting some overdue humbling as LLMs eat away their search dominance
No...does it deliver what I think youre saying it does? Couple aps in past I've tried, to for example allow me to lock my phone, never worked reliably
FWIW, this interaction, and a few others recently, have got me thinking it may be time to consider android for next phone. Don't bring up graphebe though, not gonna happen (tried it few years ago)
I won't bring up graphene lol! I've seen troubling news of android authorities making g it so it's difficult to download apks directly from sources. Instead that have to be licensed with googleplay. I'll see if I can find it
Yeah I remember this. You are suggesting android though, right? There's not some 4th option freedom phone I'm forgetting? Or is this your way of saying "graphene"?
Feel like I tried this once, and can't remember if it worked or not. Let's find out... But I do find interfacing via browser slightly annoying vs app (even though I hate the ap). Brb
No ads, can block all distracting elements within the media settings, plays in background. It’s superior to the YouTube app 🤙🏼 I think so anyway
Settings, media, enable background audio. To get past the log in issue, keep changing VPN location and refreshing. Both work for me anyway on iOS, Brave and Mullvad
It's apparently way better than in 2021/2 when I last tried it. I mostly got discouraged cuz I wanted a nokyc spy phone, but after buying cash blah blah blah I had to connect to my home WiFi to set it up. And then, it was a pretty shit experience too. Gather it's way better now, but as daily driver it's gonna be a lot of effort imo. I'm not a real cypherpunk shrug
That’s strange, background playing working for me. Did you check the enable background audio setting in Brave?

Pour one out for the YouTube chat 🫗
Request desktop website setting menu in safari but turns out you don't need it anymore. Just don't use the YT app. Use TY mobile website in safari, change app and push play in the dock menu.
Yes, most of the time that's how I end up there. A lot of music isn't on the streaming apps once you go a bit niche. In this particular case I wanted to have a podcast I got a link to play. Sure I could prob find it outside YouTube, but that's work.
Been listening (and recently viewing) on Fountain for a while, and it's a great experience. Download option for offline access, almost all all my favourite podcasts are there, combined with the great feeling of being free of YouTube's clutches, and with V4V you can stream sats for every minute consumed, plus boosts as wanted. 👍🏻

YouTube is a titan🔎 👀, adaptation to another platform will be very slow 😶😳 a small group will possibly try another platform, but unlearning old habits will be very difficult I'm curious how dispatch is going to develop further 🤔
Yeah tried that a while back and wasn't consistent for me. Solution for now has been brave browser, signed in (sadly required), with setting in brave to play when minimized
I think an update was made. It’s very reliable now. All you have to do is put the video in Picture in Picture or full screen and get out of the app: it will keep playing
