A permissionless app store alone, without indexing any external content, is a good enough pitch I think for getting grants and interest here in Nostr.
But without it Zapstore would be much less useful, and attracted less people from outside our bubble. We would be far from the daily usage numbers we are seeing right now. So I'm glad I invested in all that extra work (and frankly a lot of time in user support).
This is not a complaint. This is an invitation to everyone wanting to provide an alternative to centralized services to do the same.
This is also not about hosting petabytes of content, or even doing it for free, but to build bridges with the legacy world we are leaving behind.
It is how we attract users and connect and invite developers and creators elsewhere to get familiar with our tools and offer a smooth onramp to freedom tech.

Trying to do the same with the official Kilter Board App, I am trying to provide a better alternative to. At least sync from the offical app to CruxCoach/Nostr and opt in sync from CruxCoach to the official Kilter App if the user does not want to leave the old world completely.
Tubular is by far the best YT frontend ive found, they are sunsetting their Google Play app with this looming verification programme, obviously we use ZapStore π but a forked version of Tubular on Nostr like nsite.run would be. π

There are technically bridges to Bluesky... I've even seen some content bleed over into Nostr occasionally.
But I agree, Bluesky is decentralized "in theory", Mastodon and of course Nostr are much more decentralized "in fact."

Good point. I guess YouTubers should be able to mirror their own videos to Blossom with one click. And auto-upload to Nostr when they post new videos on YouTube.
Of course it would be great, if we have much more videos on nostr, but I guess it would be to expensive to mirror just more or less all videos. Would be interested in your opinion on how well Nostr/Blossom scales regarding data growth.
