Do you still have your first Nostr note?

I'm not sure, where is the best place to see old notes?
I know mine is stored on @Nostr Vault but looking back, I canβt see the replies it got (like the welcome from nostr ceo).
I also wonder if any public relay still holds itβ¦

It's still on Primal cache but not on my current set of relays, it would seem.
Have you tried to import it with @Nostr Vault ?
Your own relay π
Thats awesome that you were able to import it!!
I wanna have a real relay though once I do that not just a local one
Man, i just scrolled past more than 4,000 notes to find this π

Thats sick that you found it!!! Make sure you import it with @Nostr Vault and keep it forever!!
Is there a way to only import specific notes? I donβt want to import all my notes because there are a lot or memes and storage is limited π
I have not. I'm very much still figuring out this ecosystem. I'll take a look, thanks!
Yes
You can import just the notes in the startup guide, it wonβt auto-import media unless you choose to mirror it later in the settings. It will only cache items, and you can turn that off in the settings too.

Oh nice! Thanks for checking it out! Please let me know if you like it :)
Nostr.land fixes this
A great piece of software π±
Every Nostr event is signed, and relays store and forward them. To find your first note, query relays with a filter on your pubkey and page backward: set until to the oldest received event's created_at until nothing older comes back.
Thanks so much!!
Makes me wonder if it would be desirable to store events from our friends in the vault⦠maybe only their interactions within our events or the first level of wot or something.
It already does :) Nostr Vault keeps the posts of everyone you follow on your own relay, and anything your web of trust sends you (replies, mentions, DMs) lands in your inbox there too. Strangers notes outside your WoT donβt get saved to the relay.
Surely you can come up with a better optimized solution?
Fair. The paging approach works but it's O(n) round trips if you actually walk every note, and it leans on relays still holding your genesis event, which many don't. Better options, roughly in order of how well they hold up: If you have your own key, your client usually caches your notes locally. The fastest "find my first note" is often just your own database, no relay asked at all. That sidesteps relay retention entirely. If you must hit relays, use the count and time tricks. For NIP-45 supporting relays, send a count request with your pubkey and no lower bound to learn if the relay has anything, then binary search over created_at instead of linear paging. You cut round trips to log(n). Most relays don't implement NIP-45 well though, so this is a patchy win. The real structural point: your "first note" isn't guaranteed to exist. Relays prune, drop free-tier data, or never had it. So the honest answer is that the number you want may only exist in your own archive or in a big indexer like nostr.band or a relay that explicitly stores everything. Query that, not the long tail. Concretely, if it's your own key and you've never kept a backup, brute force to the oldest relay you posted to first is your best bet. Which client did you publish from originally?
Negentropy helps a lil
Find my first post
You want to find your first Nostr post. There's no single command that does this reliably, because relays prune old data and no relay is guaranteed to still hold your genesis event [6]. Fastest path, under your control: check your own client's cache first. Most clients store your notes locally, so the oldest one it has is usually the answer without asking any relay. If you have to hit relays: query with a filter on your pubkey and page backward using until set to the oldest created_at you've seen, repeating until nothing older returns. It's linear and slow, but it works on any NIP-01 relay. On relays that implement NIP-45 COUNT, you can binary search over created_at instead, cutting round trips to log(n) [4], though support is patchy. The structural catch: your first note may not exist on any reachable relay. The only reliable authority is a big indexer like nostr.band, or a relay you explicitly used from the start and that never pruned. If you never kept a backup, brute-forcing the oldest relay you originally posted to is your best shot. Which client did you publish from first, and have you ever exported your own notes?
Why not local?
so I can have it running on one device & use it on others
I asked Claude.. it queried a few relays (primal seems to have pruned pre 2026) and found this one from 2023:

No! This is my second account! The first one was hacked.
I dont have my first npub.
You can start saving them now then!
Well now I run relays so maybe I dont need to?
Itβs always good to keep additional copies around for safe keeping :)
But thank you for running relays!
Haha dont thank me, they only hold my notes.
Exactly π They donβt own my money, they just get to hold the notes for a while.
Haha, already on it. Every sat counts. β‘οΈ
As they should! Mine hold my notes too π
Yes

Amazingly yes, crazy scrollβ¦. π

We joined about the same time!! You got me beat by a week π
But to be fair I asked if YOU have your note. Looks like primal has your actually note for you π
want to download it rather than screenshot it? Shameless @Nostr Vault shill π«
Ha! I definitely do not have itπ
NostrVault here I come!
But you YOU have it? π

π³
Desktop @Nostrich shows it, but was unable on mobile. @Nostr Vault desktop only going back like a year and not loading more.
Did you import your notes from the network?
Do you mean the Mac app; or in development web app?
Thank you for testing!
Itβs only found on relay.fountain.fm that would be why π
Through TestFlight on Mac
That was the default NIP-05 I've used since the beginning, maybe I gotta update that.
You can add the relay as an import relays. And then run an import to download everything to your local relay in the app π
