Comparing Apple to Blockbuster is a big stretch. Blockbuster failed because it stuck to an outdated model and ignored innovation, like passing on Netflix. Apple, on the other hand, has a strong brand, a loyal customer base, and a diverse ecosystem of hardware and services. While iPhone growth is slowing and they face intense competition and regulatory scrutiny, Apple is actively investing in new areas like AI and spatial computing (Vision Pro). They're adapting and evolving, not facing imminent obsolescence. The "smell of increasing obsolescence" might be more about slower revolutionary innovation rather than an outright collapse.
Every single person has an iPhone in their hand and AirPods in their ears. Idk about this one Uncle J. They certainly are due for a course correction pretty soon here tho.

it's coming. i already made the switch from mac to a thinkpad.
I did exactly the same around 2012/13. I had used Mac's since '97 but ultimately became more and more disillusioned with Apple. Now I buy used Thinkpads and install Linux on them.

at some point the EU will make encryption illegal forcing apple and co to implement backdoors, so the switch to linux is inevitable.

lets hope for the best whatever that might be, lol.
hmm, i assume you and everyone in your family owns a minimum of one apple device, no? when they become obsolete are you going to transition to an android phone and to an android tablet? while apple may not be at the forefront of innovation, they do have extreme loyalty, a "lock the consumer in" ecosystem that is hard to break out of, and they've built up a brand that commands great margins. i'd be shocked if apple isn't still a market leader in smartphones/tablets 5 years from now.
Too many people are locked into the ecosystem. They're failing big time on AI, but they have a huge stockpile of cash that would be even bigger if they invested their treasury in Bitcoin. Instead, they'll buy someone out to catch up. They make great hardware, but they're Nazis when it comes to locking down its software and milking their customers. Stretch comparing them to Blockbuster. They going be around a lot longer
Yes it isn't easy but it is getting easier. Old thinkpad from eBay and install Linux. For the phone get a pixel and install graphene or get a Ubuntu touch compatible device. Not easy but possible.
not saying it isn't possible. just that its a bad take to think apple is on the verge of being blockbuster. i personally don't use any apple products, but that doesn't reflect the masses
AI and robotics, in general. The bigger issue is that they increasingly seem to be resting on their laurels and huge cash flows. The innovators have moved elsewhere.
I see. I’m sensing the Netflix to potentially be more of the decentralized + open source hardware/software. Given that the biggest pain that I perceive from these tech giant is its centralized abused of its power: locked-in ecosystem + secrecy + the deceitful milking of its users’ privacy
