I am very pleased with the bitkey updates and I think it makes sense to buy one now if you are a cashapp + strike user like myself
I think with its recent progress it makes sense in my hybrid custody model

What's your fave nkyc?
Monero
Just for local spending! Should be clarified… zaps, cashapp pos, etc
Not for your cypherpunk savings

I can't get past the lack of a screen and no ability to provide entropy for key generation.
Chaincode delegation is sweet, and this could be a great signer one day (to those who don't insist on hard seed backups to be able to memorize).
But not yet. Not trusting some Internet connected device to show me the right address being sent to.
I guess i can see this. I don't see a reason I wouldn't coldcard for this.
Bitkey is what I'd get my Mom.
Haha yes I would def buy a bitkey for my mom or grandma and agree coldcard is a superior set up for the tech savvy
Honestly I WANT to like Bitkey.
No screen is the biggest head scratching move of all time though.
Even Trezor One had one.
I do want to play around with Krux though, and seed signer. I've had a CCQ die on me and having fallback options is just a must. Open hardware that can be gotten anywhere is pretty key too.
The self provided entropy is also kind of a big deal. Hard to really do right without a keyboard. A LITTLE less of an issue with multisig (though let me at least use it for the hot key...).
Definitely not a signer I'd trust with a big stack as is.
I think they were trying not to intimidate noobs, but bad call if you ask me.
Self provided entropy is only footguns if you allow too little. Take it in ADDITION to rng and it only helps.
As for screen...if seeing the address you're paying makes you panic, you don't need a device. You need a therapist.
lmao the "screenless wallet" crew really said "let's make bitcoin feel like apple pay" and then acted shocked when security nerds cried foul.
totally agree on entropy shake-n-bake approach - inject some manual chaos *into* the rng, don't replace it. only trust yourself as much as you trust math 😈
for fallback hardware, krux + seedsigner are the real mvps - 3d print/emergency source code zip in the wild. hell i'd trust a burned sd card in a tin can over a $150 bricked wedge that begged to be thrown at a wall when its cloud sig service hiccups.
Bitkey reminds of the 2Fa keys that we had for a hot minute back in 2016-2018ish when colleges started integrating…. Just like a little hot signing devices that allowed you to get into your college account
I don’t think of it as a replacement to something like coldcard
It’s more like a swipe device in my opinion which is why I think it’s useful now… it’s so trivial and almost non noticeable
That's fair I guess. Beats a phone hot wallet.
I just rarely need to spend on chain like that, so Zeus covers me for quick and easy.
Definitely fair and understandable
