Wow. I created a Facebook account just now to see what's available on marketplace. They somehow figured out my real name and birthday based on the email address (different one than the one I used back when I had an account many years ago) and when I tried to delete the account, it keeps saying that the password is wrong (despite it being fine for logging in). What sort of dystopian nightmare is this?

Its perfect ... for slaves, same with the shitcoins casino gulag.
Impersonation on steroids. The faster it grows the faster will decay and the need for real authentication will rise. The transition time will be annoying though. One way to render the dystopian one deprecated faster is generate thousands of Impersonations and hold tight to the real one. Similarly to inflation v.s. scarcity phenomenon.
It is the world's largest spy machine. I'm NOT exaggerating at all.

They got profiles for all of us regardless of we deleted out accounts or never had one
Similar to credit agencies who issue credit scores. Facebook has issued you a social credit score, without permission.

The one where you are brave enough to delete that mail address and create a totally different one because it is a NO
I use Fakebook every day, mainly for Marketplace... But I hate it!

the killer app is a user-friendly way for normies to use public keys for authentication
I tried to re-open my account that I closed 10y ago and now for some reason it finds that I have violated community standards. Didn’t think they had those back then. #Fuckerberg
Same thing happened to me. I closed my account like 8 years ago and I barely used it before closing it. So I have no idea how they’re flagging it as violating anything. I just wanted to sell some junk in my garage.
Meanwhile I made a fake Facebook account to the name of Jack Mallers 😂 Not that I plan to use it, but was still funny.

Facebook is a complete fucking mess!
Same thing here. Created a brand new email that had never been used before. Signed up for market place. Got banned after a few hours and blocked from marketplace unless I uploaded an ID or a selfie to prove my age. I just didn’t do anything and eventually the approval came in and now I can use marketplace. It seems they just ask for your id as a courtesy—I bet they have a copy of my drivers license already—they just didn’t want to disclose it lol. .
The problem with that is vendors need to be vetted somehow because otherwise that marketplace will be filled with scammers and fake listings.
