In some Nostr posts from a while ago, I vented about how I hate YouTube's algorithm and how it incentivizes people to make sensationalist headlines and images.
Like, I'll do a serious macroeconomic interview with a great and well-informed host, and then when it gets published I see that the headline image is like a picture of the dollar exploding with me smiling next to it, along with a sensationalist text description, for the algo.
I hate that.
So I'm going to aggressively shill an example of the opposite. Someone doing it right. I did an interview the other day with an institutional investor and bitcoiner, who doesn't do that. He has normal headlines, and normal pictures, to talk about serious things. Robert Dewey.
Bob has basically gone out there and told YouTube's algorithm to fuck off. He has a small subscriber base, despite being a more informed interviewer than most, as a gray-hair institutional investor who also gets bitcoin at a really deep level. I've met him in person, and he's great.
So my shill for today is, go check out Bob's channel, and consider giving this interview or any of his other interviews a thumbs up. Let's be conscious regarding shitty algorithms, and highlight things that push back on them.

I've noticed the YouTube algo has been a bit better as of late ( for me at least). I think it's learnt that there is a market for people who are more likely to click the nonYOUTUBER thumbnail.
One example is this public access show that also goes live on YouTube. It's been doing one show a day for years and years, gets a small amount of views. But is exactly the sort of curious channel I would click on.
(I've since tried to convince them on email to join nostr and stream here too lol)

If they don't, you can just refuse to do the interview.
At the end of the day, they want/need you. Not the other way around.

People might want to try the DeArrow add-on. It crowd sources saner headlines, and optionally removes click baity thumbnails. I've been using it for a while now, find my YouTube experience is much improved, now I mostly click on things I want to watch!

We've been extremely mindful to not do so this with
@The Flirting With Bitcoin Podcast. We don't even use our faces in promotion.
When we started adding our episodes to YouTube we've just been including a chart of the #satoshipriceindex(a couple of commodities priced in Bitcoin)

Bob's merit is that unlike most people in the macro interview space, he doesn't sensationalize things. His audience and reach grows slowly relative to its quality due to the shitty algo, and so I take time to promote his channel, which I don't do for most channels that interview me.
I recommend that you go downvote my interview with him, and upvote several other interviews of his, if you're going to be so cynical as you are in every reply.
Whatever the content, the YouTube thumbnail is basically the soypog meme. 😂
Belangp is a YouTube channel that is in the same vein as Bob’s. Non-bombastic thumbnails, deep insight on macro and monetary theory. Channels like Bob’s and Belangp are a breath of fresh air

while I hate the thumbnail algo, this particular thumbnail does remind me of a something I might see in a funeral home. celebrating the life of Lyn Alden 🌅
We all need to do our part to fight against shitty algorithms, and the publishers who’ll sink to any depth to take advantage. Whenever I see a headline like “This Asian city has just been named the #1 place for digital nomads,” or “Why Lindsay Buckingham hated this band member,” I always block that news source. Publishers who embrace enshittification of the Internet deserve to be shunned, even if their actual content is worthwhile.
I started with $1000. And got back $6000 after 6 hours of investing, it’s totally legit and safe to invest in and thanks to my coach

It drives me nuts too and sadly the only advice I ever get is to drop some super slick thumbnails, A/B test some titles, use graphics and hook soemone within the first 5 seconds by using a soundbite clip.

Dont forget the guy that started the nostr protocol and his simps put tracking software, that sends ips addresses and browshing history of nostr users via njump dot me and nostr dot com. Glad to see some pushback on pervasive tracking all over nostr.
I've been doing the same for over 20 years now, I had an ezine before blogs were a thing. I always found this approach of headlines for the algorithm silly.
The recipe for me is - deliver huge value, if people don't know about it, their loss. If someone finds it valuable, the cheapest way to deliver some value to their friends is to share it with them.
I don't have many listeners or readers, certainly don't write bestsellers, but the satisfaction from the relationship with my audience is something I would never swap for a bunch of normies wanting to know what pumps next week.
