Yes, this seems more and more likely.
At least they knew of the vulnerability and chose to not do anything about it. Maybe they deliberately introduced it but were too chicken to exploit it.

The Coinkite CTO authored the vulnerability under an alias then merged it into the Coldcard repo as the CTO.
Looks like it. Or, they knew the vulnerability existed in the code only for an AI to discover it. Either way, it's horrible.
Every hardware wallet company needs to be more transparent about the backgrounds of the people who are key figures in their company. If Mossad can orchestrate a supply chain attack on beepers, I have no doubt nefarious actors will do the same on Bitcoin hardware companies.
