N3XB: Naive Nostr No-KYC Exchange for Bitcoin N3X (Naive Nostr No-KYC Exchange) is a layer 2 protocol inspired by, and runs on top of Nostr. The goal is to be a simple but extensible protocol to facilitate exchanges and marketplaces in an interoperable, censorship-resistant, privacy-aware, and decentralized manner. The initial example of N3X might be a Bitcoin <=> fiat decentralized exchange protocol, codenamed N3XB, but any type of marketplace or exchange should potentially be enabled with N3X. image

not sure about #1, but #2 sounds like it's just using nostr relays and architecture. possibly proposing a new NIP and event kind. honestly it just seems like a very in depth NIP to me. perhaps im oversimplifying it.

#[1] How do you think this compares to CivKit by #[2] ? It seems like marketplaces built on top of #bitcoin and #nostr are all the rage these days πŸ˜…
1. Think of it like a deposit you make when entering into a trade with stranger having no trusted third party. The deposit gets returned to you if you don’t cheat or break pre-listed trading rules, and all or a portion of the deposit gets taken away if you cheat or break trading rules. Bisq had been using fidelity bonds in its trades for many years. The model had proven to work. 2. Correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I read, it seems the protocol wants to exist on top of the nostr layer without requiring NIPs or big changes to nostr protocol. Like how http or ftp is built on top of tcp/ip.
Projects and businesses come and go, protocols are what stay year after year. It makes sense to build a flexible, adaptable, decentralized marketplace protocol instead of a rigid app. Build a protocol, release it, open source it, and let the world’s imagination build on top of it. This is exactly what nostr is doing and why nostr is moving so fast and so successful. If Cory’s thesis of needing to win β€œthe race to avoid the war” is true, we need a LOT more bitcoin adoption. If governments are hostile towards bitcoin, which seems to be the stance many governments are taking, one way to choke off bitcoin adoption is to cut off the on ramps to bitcoin. KYC exchanges are today’s biggest on ramps. Being centralized businesses, KYC exchanges are easily captured. Not to mention when captured, the user’s personal information collected by KYC exchanges will naturally be capture by governments. If you have coins from KYC exchanges, consider them known to the government. I have been using non-KYC exchanges for a bit over a year, mainly on Bisq and Robosats. One issue I see with these exchanges are that they are not necessarily newbie friendly. Another issue is that they all seem to have low liquidity, especially smaller currency pairs outside of USD and Euro. If a decentralized marketplace protocol is built, competing clients can coexist, providing different user interfaces and user experiences; at the same time, sharing the same larger liquidity pool. Therefore, I agree it is an excellent idea to build out a decentralized protocol to on board people to bitcoin. One that does not require KYC and cannot be captured by governments. One that has competing clients, competing for better user interface and user experience, but shares one universal protocol, shares one worldwide order book. If this can be built, it would definitely give us a boost to β€œthe race to avoid the war.”
The problem with peer-to-peer exchanges is you have no idea who you are dealing with and that is a huge risk. Let me explain: you think nothing of buying $1000 of bitcoin from some anon. A month later the FBI is knocking on your door because your bank account made a transaction to a known human trafficker. Oh S*|+! I thought I was just buying some no KYC sats. FBI, β€œtell that to the judge.” Is there a solution to this problem that I don’t know about?
Mixed feelings about bitcoin to fiat exchange. The fiat systems involving cards are already KYC so.....why? Only in-person exchange or Bitcoin-lightning payments like V4V can be truly private. Am I missing something else? #[0]
