What's a sci-fi movie that's a most likely scenario of where humanity is headed next?
Which timeline are we leaning toward - utopian or dystopian? A mix of both and/or do we still have time to redirect?

Ready player one is a good one.
Idiocracy is great.
Dystopian for the many
Utopian for the few.
We can only choose for ourselves.
1984 + Fahrenheit + Minority Report + Metropolis
to not repeat earlier replies, ill add two new ones: Elysium and Interstellar.
…The Creator (2023 film) is also quite interesting as AI becomes more pervasive (and a threat?) in our society…
Demolition Man already happened.:)
Soylent Green for the metaphor
So what's an anticipation movie.
Bladerunner

I'm so glad we're past "Soylent green". Looking forward to "V for Vendetta", but really would like to see "Star Trek".
I can see “Her” with Joaquin Phoenix happening as connection intelligence increases. And then “Upgrade” is an interesting take on weaponized neuralink. Ex machina is a classic, ghost in the shell is one of my favorites. Its too late to stop the AI so the term “self defense” will be redefined to include tech skills
The Congress
Jurassic Park but with AI robots
Big Trouble in Little China
Good suggestions. I feel like I've seen Her but don't remember it much. Might rewatch. I recently caught up with Upgrade seasons. I was being entertained but you are absolutely right. And def need a rewatch of ex machina. Thank you!

Children of Men, although UK seems a bit ahead of the original timeline.

Oooh, I haven't seen that. I like Robin Wright. TY 🫂🙏🏻
how have I missed this 👀
definitely a mix of Network, They Live, Logan's Run and THX-1138.
Logan's Run is the one i like the best because outside of the citadel-prison-cities, there is nothing stopping anyone from having a parallel society, just that it would be unable to reliably interact with their industries and production.
THX-1138 brings up that as well (spoiler) in its final scene where pursuit of the escaping hero is terminated due to bureaucratic and automated resource allocation systems.
They Live illustrates this also with the emergence of the resistance and their "outside" comes in the symbol of the hoffmann lenses.
Network is a bit more ambiguous, but portrays an awakening that fractures society.
there is two main paths, and i don't think that everyone goes down one of them. my hunch about our actual real situation is that those who are represented in the hero characters of the first three above is that there is a forgotten outside group that has been monitoring and assisting us for a very long time who both left, and got mostly erased from all records, to provide that "outside" world where a parallel society can emerge.
i know i'm making a two way, hedge-like bet there, but i think that both paths can happen at the same time to two separate parts of the population.
Teletubbies: The Movie
When I first watched it, some of the technologies in the movie felt too futuristic to be real but within 10 years almost all of them started to become reality. I definitely recommend it.
Highly recommend. It has amazing visuals.
just moved it to my watchlist
Æon Flux
I'm about to watch Elysium. I know very little about it, but I hear it hits hard. Maybe that will be a contender?
