We’re in the part of the cycle where my father in law is very satisfied with the performance of his bitcoin and texts me about it.

I hope you don’t get a “Your opinions and expectations were wrong” text during a bear market.
The green dildo of consequences tends to arrive lubed for those who hold bitcoin. Not as much when it comes to nocoiners...

Convinced my father in law a small allocation might be a good idea literally the day before the pump.
If it gets sufficiently euphoric, I'm going to eventually suggest he trims a bit or takes out his initial cost basis, since he'll be more comfortable (and able to get through a bear market) with some degree of diversification even if it lowers longer-run returns.

Or you could suggest spending it at Steak ‘n Shake.

Don’t worry. When BTC inevitably turns down, he’ll question your competency once again, and his psychological anxiety cycle will continue as well
In 2017, I convinced my mother to purchase $100 of btc. She asked me what to do when it was worth $20 in 2018. I told her to just hold it. I didn't have the conviction to tell her to buy more at the time. But she just messaged me all happy that it was almost $700 now lol

In my little country we have our little economy and price things in our little money. Pricing in USD only when we do business with abroad.
My teen just got his first paycheck. $40 is now in cash, $50 is on his Venmo and $200 is going straight into Bitcoin. I'm going to give him full access to one of my brokerage accounts. one proviso ... DO NOT SELL ... I'll buy it off him if he needs some cash .... This kid is gonna make it ... in 8th Grade he set up a homework completion service .. he had customers, sub contractors , accounts payable, accounts receivable. He had struggling students buying and had nerds selling their services. He skimmed the middle for profit. Teachers busted that up and he resorted to buying fake designer sneakers from China on EBAY and selling them for full authentic retail to his buddies. $35 cost basis ..... $200 retail.
Currencies have their little local monopolies. Globally traded goods like commodities, gold, bitcoin, and that sort of stuff is mostly priced in the largest and most liquid global currency: USD. Unless or until something grows large enough to flip it.

What I don’t understand with people like you @frphank , interacting with @Lyn Alden is : how don’t you get it in the fucking end? How big must your ego be so that each time you do your little stupid trolling she replies nicely and intelligently without even getting annoyed and showing you humbly why your perspective is limited / comes from a position of not having thought carefully and deeply about it?? How is that possible?? You are so lucky to have her, and you don’t even take advantage of it you idiots…

Does tether growth affect your fiscal dominance thesis? They print money sort of like banks, right?

Our little currency is globally traded just fine.

Would love to see any place anywhere -- real or virtual -- where Bitcoin has the tiniest local monopoly. It would at least be a very interesting scientific curiosity to study. The only place I can see is zaps on nostr. Spend says earn sats. What's the transaction volume on that.

Gotta hand it to Jehova's Witnesses though, when they come to my door they're not convincing either but at least they're polite.
No it doesn’t affect my fiscal dominance thesis. But it does digitize the Eurodollar system and make dollars more globally available.

Thanks so much for responding Fiscal vs monetary dominance is not binary, but a speedometer. To make it binary you have to draw a line somewhere. How much newly printed money ( by non-governmental entities such as Banks or Tether) Moves the needle significantly away from fiscal?
