It's absolutely wild that you can't use YouTube with a VPN IP while not signed in. Internet is getting completely unusable. I rather not use YouTube than turn off VPN or god forbid, create a Google account.
Note: this applies as well to all other FOSS youtube apps and frontends like LibreTube, NewPipe, yt-dlp. They also get broken.

Yeah it's pretty bad. They are all clamping down hard.
It works with ProtonVPN for me.
Proton also works for me …. but I understand if you do not want to use it
I read on the mullvad subreddit that US servers don't seem to have this issue. It's still a PITA for those affected. If I have to switch to a US server, the latency is so high, I might as well just use Tor 🤣
Tell me about it!
Can't watch a video on Newpipe beyond 59 seconds.
ProtonVPN seem fine so far on both Freetube, BraveNewPipe and yt-dlp. Can get Mullvad to work also by jumping around different servers until you find a server that is not IP banned. Will also stop using youtube if they completely block all VPNs or require login.
It's hit or miss. European VPN locations often work for me
Crazy 🤪
I just tried it on mullvad vpn and it works fine for me in the US
No issues with ProtonVPN
Mullvad has the issue that their IP addresses are well known and they are blocked by many services. Maybe because the services want to know your real IP address or their systems see to many connections from the same IP address as attack. There can be many reasons why Mullvad doesn't work
Depends on the IP.
Interesting, i was wondering why it did that
It’s an impressive crackdown
My router goes through a VPN. This is my struggle
