Citrine has a "restore follows" button if you're using that as a relay.
*sigh* I don't have Citrine :/

I guess I'd have to rebuild it first then back-up.
Probably screwed unless you created a follower / profile backup or have the hist.nostr.land relay in your app settings.
You could try a different client to see they still cached their own profile, then edit it which would push the change across your relays. But that's a tiny chance.

Nostr.land restore works much better as it can show you multiple versions while not requiring manual backups.
Try hist.nostr.land in that case.
Nostur is a great client to recover follows, but only if you used it before your follows got nuked.
The relay wss://hist.nostr.land/ is a good relay to add to keep a backup of your followers, which you can then recover here:

Managing contacts on Nostr can be trickier than it seems. Switching apps or relays can sometimes lead to accidental loss of your contact list. Thankfully, there are several ways to restore your contacts. Here’s a brief guide:
1. Using the Nostr Profile Manager / Follows Manager
Visit or https://follows.nostr.com. To restore your contacts, you’ll need a browser extension:
- For Desktop: Use Nostr Connect on Chrome browsers that support extensions.
- For Android: Use Kiwi Browser with Nostr Connect.
- For iOS: Use the Nostore app extension for Safari.
2. Using Nostur (iOS)
The Nostur app notifies you when it detects a new version of your contact list and offers options to restore or approve changes.
- Important: You must already be a Nostur user before losing your contact list.

3. Using Citrine (Android)
The Citrine relay runs locally on your phone, enabling contact restoration from a backup.
- Important: Citrine must be set up before your contacts are lost.

4. Using Primal Premium
If you’re a Primal Premium user, go to the Nostr Tools section and select "Contacts Backup." You can view all backups and choose a restore point.

Experienced that last week too. Missing you and your stunning posts! 🩷
None of the options work without manual backups and/or payment. Users should not have to pay or manually deal with contact list restores because their client has bugged out.

Yours has not worked for me in the past. I can't recommend one that I haven't used or one that I have not had success with. Every single one I recommend has worked for me and countless others though.

Well I can’t help you with this supposed issue if you didn’t reach out when it happened.
The correct configuration also requires you have hist.nostr.land in your list which you don’t.
While there is a best-effort attempt at syncing lists it is not guaranteed unless you write directly due to the nature of Nostr.

Though this has been resolved, is being "decentralised" the root cause of why follows get nuked for having done nothing to cause it?
This probably shouldn't be happening. Or is the community going to continue to come up with 5 temporary solutions for every issue?
