It's YOUR mempool. Peter Todd doesn't get to tell you what goes in it. Miners get to tell you what goes in the blocks in your local copy of the blockchain *if* they meet a massive PoW requirement that fits within consensus rules. But "you are not allowed control over what goes into your mempool anymore" As I said yesterday, it's over if this gets merged and it looks like Core are ignoring all the push back and accelerating it. image

if I wanted custom mempool rules I would just run a fork or build a plugin system where I can run any logic I want ?
What is the specific policy they are changing? I’m not a dev… I’ve been working on a formal model of Bitcoin as the decentralized quantum computer, so this matters greatly to my work. While there is no “global mempool”, there is a theoretical global mempool which is the union of all local mempools. The diversity of perspective was crucial to avoiding a single centralized observer; no one node knows all possible future outcomes, and that uncertainty is part of the system’s entropy field. A proposed change of this magnitude seems to collapse the mempool before Proof-of-Work has acted. - They decide what transactions are “worth considering.” - They decide what entropy counts. -They become the pre-consensus filter, effectively collapsing the state before the decentralized measurement (mining) occurs. To me this could be reintroduction of the observer paradox, the exact one Bitcoin was built to eliminate. It seems like a centralization play. If Core dictates the mempool globally, they become the pre-observer. That breaks the physics and it breaks the trust. image
What's disturbing IMHO is that @Bitcoin Mechanic was banned from the Github discussion after highlighting a conflict of interest by a VC investor who is in favour of the change.

He attacks Bitcoin This motivates a major change to Bitcoin In the resulting discussion on github, he approves of this change (that is motivated by his attack) If you point out this conflict of interest - no matter how politely - you will be banned. @ODELL hope you're paying attention to all this

And Jesus said, Mat 6:19-21 KJV ¶Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Shared using AndBible: Bible Study. (https://andbible.github.io)

Forgive my ignorance but would this mean knots users can no longer set datacarrier policies or limits?
opposite, knots users retain control of their mempools. Core seek to deny this.

Okay that was my assumption. So the issue here is just that those running Core will no longer have this option? #RunningKnots
Genuine question that I’ve heard asked but never answered: While I’m all for financial-only transactions — and running whatever mempool policy you want — doesn’t censoring consensus-valid transactions encourage the degens to send and pay miners directly through back channels? How does my wallet do fee estimation properly if it can’t see the real cost of what it takes to get into the next block? You’d need third party apis from the top 10 mining pools to get an actual estimate. To my understanding this would be troublesome for wallets and lightning nodes, but if I’m misunderstanding something I’d love to be corrected. Cheers

Fork wars 2025 is gonna be fun. I thought the 1st fork would be a BTC-America version … instead we have this.
Seems to me this PR will be good for diversification of nodes — those of us who don’t like it will switch to knots or some other implementation, which is healthy for the network at large I should think.

>How does my wallet do fee estimation properly if it can’t see the real cost of what it takes to get into the next block? Well, it doesn't.
Lol they aren’t on nostr unfortunately. I don’t think Bitcoiners have yet appreciated how big of a deal a decentralized physical observer governed by network consensus actually is, or what that even means.
We need alternatives bitcoin implementations to core that compete on equal conditions. Core can't be the de-facto standard monopoly of bitcoin node software anymore, since core developers make changes that take away freedom of configuration choice from node runners.

Very good points. I'd been thinking about those incentives earlier today. And yeah fee estimation is gonna be more accurate if you account for stuff you're kicking out of the mempool that miners will be mining.

Wonderful this is more blind, reading and blind. What are you an initiate? Are you clairvoyant? Are you pretending to understand what parables mean human beings have become completely material oriented and we have no feeling no sight and no real comprehension of what the Bible means was written by initiates for initiates we can all become that, but none of us are that now quoting from it just makes you sound smart or all knowing it’s an abstraction until you feel the reality. Do you really feel the reality? Do you think anybody does you have to know God not believe in God in the present day that takes work you need to learn spiritual science I’m not saying I know it, but I sure as hell down quote from the Bible, unless I’m using it in one of my scripts, but we need is common sense language that promotes balanced reaction to the insanity going on in increases human interest in human beings
Satoshi did not think so. But perhaps he was wrong. “I don’t believe a second, compatible implementation of Bitcoin will ever be a good idea. So much of the design depends on all nodes getting exactly identical results in lockstep that a second implementation would be a menace to the network.” - sn That said, Knots has been running alongside core for years now.
I’m the textbook definition of a noob rn but I watched a video detailing why this is such a big deal, not impressed at all. Silencing dissenting voices, taking the moral high ground, coupled with quite frankly a record of the most elementary level gaslighting is the most clear cut way of projecting that you are not willing to be challenged, which is dangerous. Stems from a fear that your actions will be uncovered, but if you have nothing to afraid off…no one confident and assured in their own position would even think to overreach and eliminate opposing views from the discussion, let alone ppl who have been wading in this waters a while. I hate to use slippery slope arguments, but you can see how and where this could lead to many steps in the wrong direction.
Why not maintain a fork or even better another node implementation which does what you want. No one can tell you what code you run. It's open source. More node diversity is better.
I'm sorry that I missed your comment earlier. Please forgive me. --- Since your text is complicated I will break it down to comment and respectfully answer your critique: This is verbatim and the parentheses are mine. "Wonderful this is more blind, reading and blind. What are you an initiate?" (Sic -- ) ( Yes, I am an initiate. By accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior I am initiated. It's very simple. I bent my knee, prostrated before God and I asked in the name of Jesus Christ for God to accept me.) "Are you clairvoyant?" (Sic ) ( I quoted the King James Version of the Bible based on my inspired reading of a post about Bitcoin.) "Are you pretending to understand what parables mean human beings have become completely material oriented and we have no feeling no sight and no real comprehension of what the Bible means was written by initiates for initiates we can all become that, but none of us are that now quoting from it just makes you sound smart or all knowing it’s an abstraction until you feel the reality." (Sic) ( I'm not pretending. I'm quoting the Gospel Scripture which can lead us to more thought and careful consideration of our relationship to the material world verses the spiritual world. ) " Do you really feel the reality? " (Sic) ( Yes, I picked up something very heavy a week ago and hurt my back. Now I'm sitting at home missing an extra opportunity to make more money to pay for my debts and stack more sats. I'm a good sized man and I'm physically very strong with endurance but I was humbled by a very heavy piece of steel that I could have moved with a front end loader but I was careless and lazy to do it the right way. The reality is that my carelessness led me to lose instead of gain. This I must stack more in the way of my spiritual relationship with God than with material gain. I will one day be much weaker and I will not be able to recover from an injury like this. ) "Do you think anybody does you have to know God not believe in God in the present day that takes work you need to learn spiritual science I’m not saying I know it, but I sure as hell down quote from the Bible, unless I’m using it in one of my scripts, but we need is common sense language that promotes balanced reaction to the insanity going on in increases human interest in human beings " (Sic) ( I pray that you learn how to write in paragraphs and complete sentences. My early published work is full of hyperbole, run-on sentences and discord. I've learned that clear communication is very important and while I am certainly not the best writer it is my goal to share and show the truth. ) ( Yes, you can open the door to your heart and God will enter via Jesus Christ. If you read the Bible and review the testimony of Moses, the Prophets and the Apostles you can have a direct relationship with the Father. Jesus Christ is the last sacrifice needed to pay for the sins of obtaining the Tree of Knowledge. Knowing what is good and bad is not knowing the wisdom of why this is good and bad. Having free will is the price and with this free will we must see that we are either collaborators or we are in opposition to the Lord. ) --- I was like you, very critical of those who would quote the Bible. Now I'm grateful for such opportunities because the Bible is the testimony of many different men. Here are the words of Jesus regarding those not "initiated": Mar 9:38-41 KJV ¶And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. 39. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. 40. For he that is not against us is on our part. 41. For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward. Shared using AndBible: Bible Study. (https://andbible.github.io) Furthermore regarding false prophets: Mat 7:15-20 KJV ¶Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17. Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Shared using AndBible: Bible Study. (https://andbible.github.io) #Bible #Money #Bitcoin

You’re forgiven but not for what you think. You honestly think it’s that easy. Good luck with that
The "C" is backwards in your hat. As a producer I notice things like that. Optics are very important. Thank you for forgiving me. Since we are brothers please forgive me 🙏 twice. If you get an insight into my faults please share. Here's another Biblical quote that reminds me to not judge even though I do constantly. Alas we are brothers. Are we judging? Are we telling the truth? Are we grasping straws? Surely if we are interested in the truth then we are merely conspiring. --- Mat 7:1-5 KJV Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4. Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5. Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye. Shared using AndBible: Bible Study. Further confirmation of point 1 "Bitcoin is for enemies" but it's still disappointing how many moronic meatheads there are in the space now. And I can't help but notice how almost all seem to come from the USA
