A few days ago I had lunch with @Gigi and he told me about this awesome idea: > A relay that rejects long notes. This morning I woke up thinking about it. And now it's live. wss://140.f7z.io 140-character limit. With a pretty strict moderation, so spam should be basically non-existent. It's also sucking short notes from other relays, so it's global should be pretty useful. Check it out! PS: No coincides; I saw this @fiatjaf note just now πŸ˜‚ @note10nvzcqzst4c5yee279u2j5qpzzkffhwxn5qf5t7jxqfx53h6agdqte34ay

How awesome! A character count feature on Clients, to be certain my messages are within limit and wont be rejected by these relay types, would be useful.
What about kind 0 and kind 10002? It could be a problem to fetch author metadata…
Just say "pablo" or "fiatjaf" it's only 20 people and everyone reads everything anyway

Awesome! Would be great to see these errors surfaced in more clients.
Yes, but maybe it shouldn’t like I did for npub/note/nevents. How did Twitter handle this? Did URLs factor in into the 140 limit?
What's the best way to use specific and special case relays like this? Most apps have a global, by following and some a few other filters. Is there a simple way I'm missing to just go "today I wanna see just the 140char posts" or "now let's go check out that relay that only accepts cat pics"? Using Amethyst, Snort and Iris normally fwiw
We came up with the concepts of relay sets months ago but they haven’t received much love. The UX could be similar to that of using Discord. One click and you can change everything except your keys and mix and match your content/identity/follow list as you wish. This is largely unexplored but I’ve experimented in the old version of Highlighter and it’s a very amazing and powerful experience.
I don't believe that 140 characters can effectively restrict spam messages. The issue with spam messages lies not in their length but in their enormous quantity and frequent occurrence. If I were to send a hundred messages to every person in the Nostr network using a thousand accounts within a second, even if these messages were only 140 characters long, they would still be spam messages. The 140-character limit can foster a short message social media culture similar to Twitter, but it cannot prevent abuse of the messaging system.

Love nostr love btc, but being honest I no nothing about relays. Can anyone point me to a helpful resource to educate myself? Thanks!
Glad I didn’t have to highlight that and you did. This needs to be worked on because let’s face it - a post over 140 characters doesn’t make it β€œspam.” I thought it (your post) was semi informative and important (fine and nothing wrong), but was restricted because of a character limit. lol.
I just tried wss://140.f7z.io and it works very well. I used one of my other npubs so I wouldn't upset anything relay wise for this npub. All I am seeing are very short notes on the test npub now. View quoted note β†’
Thisss! πŸ’―πŸ’―πŸ’― 😍😍β™₯️ I totally agree, I love long and short life update posts. Recipes and podcast information. Not huge on dev stuff all the time. A mixture is good too but to be able to filter it would be amazing 😍πŸ”₯. Size doesn’t always matter.
Yes URL characters counted, which is the primary reason why URL shortening services appeared right after Twitter did.
Hey pepe, can you please guide me to on how to write a NIP? My write-filter is gonna make heads explode but i can't do it by myself.
Seeing posts on this relay from people who aren’t connected to the relay. I click on their profile and I check their relays and it’s not there. Maybe it’s @Damus . I’m just filtering the global feed by relay.

It ingests notes that satisfy the conditional from a few other relays
Fixed it, bad at math I guess πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™
Nevermind I had it right the first time. What is wrong with me.. too much carpentry I was thinking 144.

Sleepcoding is the new sleepwalking
140 on Twitter was like ppl were just barking out summaries and condensed thought fragments for maximum effect, which was often β€œ I am so offended, need to engage more” . 140 was in my opinion a Buiz Model around engagement farming. Didn't appeal to me, but was successful. But if you areeasily distracted and talk in memes only, 140 is enough. HΓΆ. There aren't proper threads here, maybe on other clients ? I would give 280 a try. Enough for form follows function.

this literally twitter with moderation.
Me too. Its the only way to fly. I wish clients would complement with a character counter so I know if I am being filtered. @Vitor Pamplona Are links included in the limit?

So you understand what is long and what is short. πŸ«‚
Cool idea. I may use this to test a DVM for sentence embeddings. Related idea for improvement: could it be possible to make the character limit recursive? I.e. the events in the e tag must also satisfy the character limit. That way it prevents people from quoting an entire essay
