For squirrels, I’ve found raised garden beds deter them from eating the crops. As for the deer, chicken wire fencing will help. But personally I have a treeing walker coonhound that generally keeps everything out of the yard.
It just means the garden’s out of balance, either you eat them or get a lion or something.

what can I grow in 10a this late in the year? we don't get frosts so I'm always confused by the instructions about when to plant.
You can grow short season crops just about any time of year - Lettuce, radishes, etc. even carrots would do great this time of year. Also many southern gardeners take advantage of cooler winter temps to grow crops that are considered warm season crops else where- crops that would struggle with extreme high temps and/or drought during summer. I know many southern farms plan tomatoes, peppers and squash out now and plan to harvest late spring before things heat up too much. Then they shut down for June-Aug.
I garden, I grow my own food so I can a) share with my neighbours and friends b) teach children c) save Bitcoin d) be happy and healthy
I'm not sure I understand it yet, but when people ask me how to invest, I suggest starting with a garden.
As a former community garden manager and current bitcoiner, I fully support this message! I can't wait to settle into my next home and start gardening again, it brings me joy and peace 🥰

We want more Bitcoiners to garden. And more gardeners to understand Bitcoin. That’s it. That’s the note

how interesting! I didn't know I could still do tomatoes right now. I'll have to give that a try. taro is obsessed with salsa right now. tomatoes, onions, cilantro, a bit of salt and lemon. he signs for "dip" even when he's eating not-paired-with-salsa foods like, strawberries 😆

Over the past few months, our family has set out to start a restaurant. We have transformed our garden so that we are growing many of the vegetables we will use in the shop. It's a great way to live.

I was also looking at the Snowball Turnips. any tips for growing those?
Those did pretty well on their own for us. But we did find that pill bugs and ants liked to hang around the base of them. You can place used coffee grounds around the base of them to deter them due to the caffeine content of the grounds.
One of my little Moringa trees is putting out the seed pods. Appeared last week but the speed at which they grow. Moringa is known as the "tree of life" with incredible proteins and medicinal properties in the leaves, seeds, roots and flowers. They seem to grow well here but a little slower growth due to winds. Hopefully these seed pods will germinate into many more. I think this will be a good future crop here for all . image

If anyone seeing this is in Lewis county, WA (or nearby) please reach out so we can collaborate on this idea. I'm working on gardening and weakest there, but very interested in creating a circular economy. By weak, I still have a big garden and orchard and partner who has a degree in horticulture. I have grand aspirations.
