Nostr is springing to life again 🫂

Replies (109)

My twitter got temporarily restricted I think because I reported an ECB advert for a CBDC as potentially fraudulent...more on on Nostr now for sure
All verified accounts are now losing all impressions from unverified accounts. Seems like verification is even less valuable now.
I guess this guy being in charge of the other place will continue to help Nostr spring to life. image
Probably because the almighty musk has rate limited READING posts to unnecessarily low numbers.

Jack truly don’t understand why you thought Twitter would be in good hands with Elon??? He has constantly talked shit about previous management of Twitter all the while Twitter has become exponentially worse since you stepped down

He promised us free speech and we got limited use 😂
So, all this Twitter rate limiting nonsense is almost certainly having to do with reports from France — probably getting that here (for better or worse) will grow the users dramatically.

a Twitter clone does not have to be decentralized. it should just work and be just as uncomplicated. otherwise it will never work.

Twiterın son açıklamasından sonra burası daha mantıklı hale geldi.

I don't understand. Why would view rates be applied to all of twitter for just France? Also I can still view quite a bit of French content. If censorship was the intent, couldn't Twitter be more direct with it?

Agree. It should just work and be simple. But being a twitter clone is not the goal.

Not sure how that makes sense. The company has the ability to do per country limits and takedowns without effecting rest of world.

What does it effectively do for the France situation? Because the internet still exists for communication?

Nah. Just a standard lull. Goes in waves. Each wave will increase in volume. The zaps removal is a big hit though.

I don’t think it’s gotten worse. Better in many ways, completed and finished a lot of the things we started, made some execution mistakes out of speed in my view, but all correctable. Going private was the only path forward for the company. The timing of the sale really screwed things up tho.

Think he did hurt global interactions big time. Even limiting paying individuals is awful incentive to…make people actually want to pay? If I’m paying $8 a month, don’t limit how often I can check the feed It might not die, but he definitely damaged it significantly today. Will be a little surprised if he doesn’t walk it back. Really bad decision all the way around…there are other solutions to data scraping. I think Elon knows this, but decided to go full grifter/$8 per month charge. Truly muting out anyone not a blue check. Nostr it is, then. 🤷‍♂️

Nah. And it was a public company. Every public company is for sale to the highest bidder. It could have gone down differently, but here we are and need to make it work.

Yes. I’m sure there are rational reasons for the moves. I don’t know what they are. Hopefully temporary. But it does shine a light on companies that own the protocol, discovery, and distribution. Nostr shows another path.
Some ways it has gotten worse: - state media no longer labeled - blue checks meaningless - elon tweets are prioritized - lots of weird new censorship (elon plane accounts, turkish election speech and more govt compliance, can’t easily change pfp) - elon uses his own account to boost nutty people

Let’s see if it's temporary. Seems like it’s going to hurt a lot, but I don’t know current usage patterns.

I’m so sorry. and the problem still persists in Bluesky. Nostr remained intact
It's true, going private was the goal, regardless of ownership. You don't want the public to have a legal opinion on the company in charge of millions of conversations.

Well, all issues of having protocol discovery and distribution owned by a single org. I hope they consider building on nostr to take some of this burden away.

We love Bluesky and Nostr, both should stay intact ☺️
I read the comments and people are crying "twitter is dying" after 1 day... Again! Everytime there is a little problem, people get hysterical... Get a life! 😅 The real problem is the censoreship issue, not EM trying to solve some technical problems.

This has always been the case since day 1 of twitter. Doesn’t matter who runs it. People love it a lot.

As do I. It’s resilient. And only gets better if they build on open global protocols like nostr and bitcoin.
jack's avatar
jack 2 years ago
You don’t need my follow to do that.
Unless he doesn’t want events from France going to the rest of the world. But regardless whether it has anything to do with France (first thing that came to mind), sudden “rate limiting” is a pretty effective way for Elon to censor any current information from spreading quickly.

It feels very cool to be here, like eavesdropping on something exciting happening. I’m no bitcoin expert, and my passions lean toward the literary and spiritual rather than tech. I’m 72. And it feels cool to read thoughts from Jack and Edward Snowden, two people i admire. I’ll just lurk quietly in the background to see how nostr unfolds.

"being a twitter clone is not the goal" Everyone should print this and tape it to their desk. Maybe add: "Build something new today".
